We had the good fortune of connecting with Jericka Belman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jericka, what do you want your legacy to be?
I want my legacy to be a representation of healing and I want to be remember as a woman of Faith. I’m very Christ driven and always want God to be the number one focus in my life. The reason why is because what you do for man won’t last, but what you do for God will. If God ain’t in it, I don’t want to be a part of it. Dance Therapy is a brand created to promote healing through dance movements. I find joy in watching people heal from past traumas. I don’t believe in letting your past define you and letting what may have happened to you in the past tell you who you are. I want to be remember as the woman who wasn’t afraid to step out on faith. The woman who isn’t afraid to get a million “no’s” and still believe in God for something bigger. It’s never about me, God gets all the glory.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What an honor it is to get to tell my story about how passionate I am about my craft. This dream of mine started when I was a little girl in middle school at 12 years old, when I discovered that I had a gift. Not just for dance but for acting and writing as well. God doesn’t limit us to just one thing. So I’m using my gifts of dance and acting to open up doors for bigger opportunities. Nothing in life comes easy and of course there have been a lot of sleepless nights, were my dreams keep me up through the night. I have to stay in the word of God to remain level headed along this journey. I’ve learned that everybody’s journey is not the same, “comparison is the thief of joy.” Throughout this journey you have to remain humble and professional because you don’t know where your blessing is going to come from. I want the world to know that it’s important to believe in yourself, no matter if there is a lack of support, KEEP GOING! My brand represents healing and I use my art to help me heal from past hurts, disappointments, and setbacks.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m such a girly girl. I like nice aesthetics. The first stop we’ll go to is the Supper Club Belcourt for Brunch because it gives all the aesthetics that a girl needs to take nice pictures and the scenery is beautiful and upscale. For Lunch I would say Prince’s Hot Chicken because you can’t come to Nashville without trying the originators of the “hot chicken.” For Dinner STK because a classy girl loves fine dining and it’s always a pleasure to treat yourself. And STK food is so bomb! Last but not least a night of fun would be at Suite Twelve25 because the strawberry lemon drops are the best in the city. The vibes are nice and the aesthetics give all the vibes that a girly girl needs. And plus you can kick back and relax and enjoy yourself with food, music, drinks, and hookah.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mother, Jacqueline Denise Belman. She is no longer here, she passed away in 2019 but she was my biggest fan. My #1 supporter. She’s the reason why I started to branch out and create my own brand for myself. She believed in me when nobody else did. I’m forever grateful for the conversations we had about my career. I know she is extremely proud of the woman I am becoming. Therefore the shoutout goes to her because she prayed for opportunities like this.
