We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamiku Gee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jamiku, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business is simple. As much as I would like this to be a great and profound explanation, it isn’t. I found something that I enjoyed doing and began to pursue it as a hobby initially. I knew that I enjoyed the visuals and aromas of different foods. What I did not know is that I enjoy taking photos of these foods. I found that out over time when I noticed that there were barely any photos of me in my phone, but I could definitely find a good steak, seafood, etc.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As for my professional career, I am a Software Analyst. I sort of stumbled into I.T. a while back. Ever since then, I’ve never turned back. I am very grateful to be working in a position where I am able to help people on a daily basis.

I love to learn new things and working in the technology industry, there is never a shortage of new things to learn. Although I love technology and analytics, I also thrive in creativity as well. This is the side of me that caused me to start a journey in food photography.

I would like people to encourage others, to start doing things that you love. Don’t let fear hold you back from putting yourself out there. Notice that I did not say “don’t be afraid”. You will more than likely be afraid during multiple parts of a journey that is new to you, just don’t let it stop you! Also, be sure to have fun with whatever you do along the way ❤️.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I have a relaxed personality. If one of my friends comes and stays with me for a week, I would arrange a mixture of enjoyable activities that are semi laid back.

We would start the week off with church on Sunday morning followed by brunch at one of my favorite brunch spots, Granite City in Franklin, TN. From there we would go to a walking trail. During the week we would get a couple of workouts at the YMCA.

Also, on the agenda would be to catch a play at Belmont Fisher Center. We would make room during the week to go walking down 21st Avenue, near Vandy, to a few boutiques. Green Hills mall is a short driving distance from here, so we would go there also to check out some stores and go have a bite to eat at Restoration Hardware. My favorite there is the lobster roll sandwich and the chocolate chip cookies with sea salt. Always, be sure to ask them to warm the cookies 😊 The food, service and atmosphere are all very nice here. Restoration Hardware’s restaurant has their furniture store connected to it (multi-level). There are elevators if you do not want to take the steps. I always enjoy going to the top level of the furniture store. There is a roof top and the sun hits very nicely on it. Hint: great place for photos 😁.

Fast forward to the last weekend before my friend goes home. That Friday, we would get in a nice game of bowling. We would get up Saturday (appointments made in advance of course) and go to my favorite local spa, located in the Bell Meade area…Escape Day Spa and Salon. After all of that relaxation, we would go to Virago and sit on the roof top and eat sushi.

Hopefully, she would have enjoyed her stay while visiting with me.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. All good gifts come from above, so I am thankful that I was gifted something that I really enjoy. I also give thanks to my mom. Her dishes have been a motivation in my life that I did not realize were motivating me until later on.
