Meet Jake Tiesler | Personal Development Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jake Tiesler and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jake, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
I help people overcome the struggles of life by becoming the best version of themselves through mindset and fitness. Many people struggle with anxiety, depression, addiction, lack of purpose and direction. I help them by using accountability coaching, nutrition, training programing and weekly team calls. It’s a full on war if you want to change your life. You need to work with someone who has done the same in their personal life. I recently dropped 25 pounds of fat and have transformed my body and mind, I show others how to do the same in their lives.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I was born and raised on the west side of Nashville in Bellevue. I went to MTSU and studied Human Physiology but after my under grad I met a girl who lived in Los Angeles so I packed my Honda Civic hatchback and drove west. Within 30 days I was living in my car. I had stress hives, no job, no friends or family and the girlfriend was a learning experience for a young naive man.
So I literally had to start in my car.
My first job was valet parking in Beverly Hills, then I would go back to the streets of Hollywood and sleep in my car.
It was hard to find places to go to the bathroom becuase of the homeless situation, there were rarely public bathrooms.
I made a young actor friend who was working valet also, he had a studio apartment in Beverly Hills with a fake leather couch. I stayed there for 6 months until he kicked me out.
I had saved enough money to get my own place and my client list was growing for personal training.
I eventually would go on to train Andre3000 from Outkast and the foreign minister of Saudi Arabia, producers, models, actors and entertainment industry folks.
I say all this to say… my history is what makes me a good coach
In order to be a good personal development coach you need to have overcome some hardships in life
I went from homeless sleeping in my car to semi retired now, I have recently lost 30 pounds at 40 years old and have a 6 pack, I train JiuJitsu 3x/week and have a great life now.
I get to workout everyday, train JiiuJitsu, make content and spend my days doing what I enjoy most helping others overcome their struggles.
You can change your life
You are getting older every day
Nothing is guaranteed in life
You must create the best life you possibly can and help yourself and others as much as you possibly can in this short amount of time we have here
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Early morning workout at QNTM in the gulch, hit a quick hike at Percy Warner before it gets to sunny and hot, catch a few live bands, then head to the lake for the sunset on the boat.
Then you could do a canoe trip on the west side of Nashville in Pegram, catch some homemade Korean afterwards on Charlotte.
Catch a performance at the Ryman, then hit a jazz bar to chill.
There’s plenty to do every night of the week
If you’re like me and enjoy motorsports
You can do the lake, offroading nearby at “Land Between The Lakes” and plenty of others places if you get to know the locals
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
When I came back from my decade stint in Los Angeles I was burnt to a crisp. I was totally burned out and basically going through a really hard time. My friend Ryan Richardson got me to attend my first JiuJitsu class, practically had to twist my arm but I went. I was hooked after day one. Renzo Gracie Brentwood is the school, Mac, Jackson and the world renowned instructor Shawn Williams run and amazing program there. I have been going for 6 months straight, three days per week and haven’t missed a class. This gave my life structure, discipline, community, education, bonding and so much more. Learning a new skill which is mentally and physically challenging causes you to develop as a person in many areas of your life. You can notice on the mats where you are being complacent and it usually carries over into your life somewhere. You can notice how you are not being aggressive on the mats, which also is true in your life. You also get to strangle or get strangled by your buddies three times per week, which will help you stay more grounded. The mats will make you grow as a person mentally, physically and spiritually.
