Meet Jack Miele | Music Producer / Audio Engineer / Guitarist / Composer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jack Miele and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jack, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I think the most important factor is consistency. What is a brand? It’s a promise to your clients or customers that you’ll deliver a consistent product…..whether that product is a recording or a live performance or a pair of shoes….it’s all the same in concept. You have to strive to be consistently great, no matter what is going on in your personal life. It’s a very hard thing to achieve and I work tirelessly at it. Do I fall short sometimes? Absolutely. But, that being said, it’s about how well you can recover and regain the trust of your clients and customers that matters.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
That’s a lot of questions! Haha. Ok…. I got to where I am professionally by just never stopping. People have a tendency to let life “get in the way”. I started when I was a teenager and I put a lot of childish things behind me and just tried to focus. I wanted to be a famous guitarist, so not knowing anything about the business, I just practiced incessantly. I thought that the level of talent you had equaled the level of success or fame you had….boy was I wrong! I learned that the business side of things has absolutely nothing to do with ones ability level some of the time. Yes….you need to be talented….but that’s not all there is to the story. Was it easy? Absolutely not. You have to want it more than everybody else and, moreover, be willing to actually do something about it. Even when I was 15, I was completely tunnel visioned. All I wanted was to make it, so I kept practicing. I had no actual plan. That was a challenge. How do you formulate a path if you have no map? So I started ingratiating myself in the music community and hanging out at the places where musicians that were ahead of me were hanging out and I would soak up all the information I could. In the process, I made some great friends. What I would like the world to know about my story is that…..it IS possible. You have to dedicate your entire life to it. That’s all there is to it. You have to be willing to do what the next person isn’t willing to do to get ahead, to get noticed, to formulate a path and to secure your future.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ok well in my home town of New Orleans, there’s plenty to do. I would say that some of the music clubs we would have to hit would be the Maple Leaf, Snug Harbor, Tipitinas, Southport Hall, and probably a walk down Bourbon and Frenchman St. They also have some just amazing bars and restaurants in the city. For dining out I would say Revolution, Del Porto, GW Finns, Brennans, Galatoire’s, and for something more casual, Kanno for sushi and Central Grocery for muffalettas!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Wow, there are so many people. This career is kind of a destinationless journey and many have helped me and believed in my along the way. My mother, grandmother and sister, who raised me and always believed in my abilities deserve recognition. Then there are the technical people along the way that always answered my phone calls and taught me about music production and engineering…. people like Greg Troyer, George Ortolano, Bruce Barielle, Tracey Freeman, Mike Napolitano, Mike Montero, and also videographers Kurt Coste and John Beyer. As a guitarist definitely inspired and taught by players that showed me tons of things all through my career like Hank Mackie, John Dandry, Craig Schexnaydre, Daryll Schmidt, Shane Theriot and Dave Rosser.
Lastly, I have to give a shout out to my amazing wife, Kassie Netherland, who is a constant source of inspiration and motivation. She is my muse and always makes me strive harder to be the best version of myself.
