Meet Jack Horsley | Wedding & Portrait Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jack Horsley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jack, what’s your definition for success?
My way of defining success is being consistent and focused.
To be successful, being consistent with with routines of running a small business and creating art is big process, and when people are proud of the work I have done and show their gracious support and interest in working with me again, that’s when I know something is being done right.
Focus is also important when working in a multi-faceted art like photography. From booking to delivery of photos, there are a number of steps. Maintaining direction is key to success.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My life has been one lesson after another. It’s included adapting to a developmental disability, overcoming social and emotional obstacles and trusting my passion could be my career. College wasn’t easy, but with the help of kind people, who have become lifelong friends, I graduated with my degree in Media Technologies with a concentration in Photography. My business has steadily increased over the years and now have many clients and families who are my regular clients and my friends.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I ever had a friend that was visiting Knoxville for the first time ever, I would take them to such wonderful places as Downtown Knoxville, Dollywood, Gatlinburg, and if they also came during football season, we would also be going to a Tennessee Vols game!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The biggest group of people I want to give a great big shout to are my family. They have shown me so much more encouragement than anyone else. They are my big supporters and saw how much I was enjoying dabbling in photography and playing around with cameras when I was growing up. My hobby with photography was what drew them the most and they have always had strong thoughts of me going into photography professionally. If it weren’t for them, I really wouldn’t have a clue where I would be today.
