We had the good fortune of connecting with Hunter Woodard and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hunter, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
# things tie this question together. Music & skateboarding has always been apart of my life. I found Kendama in 2018 & made it apart of my branding as well. Kendama reminds me so much of skateboarding and music together. The more I played the more I fell in love and realized that it needed to be something I push towards others. The patience taught through Kendama is huge when it comes to a day to day basis. I guess my thought process was that I wanted to share the same joy I experience in life with others.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I wear a lot of hats! I started making music about 11 years ago. It has not been easy, but I continue to expand and learn more and more each day! I track, mix, master all of my own music & a few other local Nashville artist as well. Through skateboarding & Kendama I have found different ways to keep pushing when times are tough. Sometimes you just have to commit to that leap and balance what’s at play afterwards. Nobody got anywhere in life just doing what they do everyday. Each day I push myself to try and be better or smarter than I was the day before. Can’t really pinpoint what or how, but it is just something that I have taught myself with time. I have learned that I will never stop learning!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When it comes to traditional Nashville feel I would recommend Laylas or Roberts on broadway. If you see Bill on the Grill tell him that Hunter loves him! Dees Lounge has a fantastic happy hour. Princes chicken is the true Nashville hot chicken. Get a buschwacker from somewhere, but make sure they use Screwball. Tennessee alone has many waterfalls and trails, but Fiery Gizzard Trail is hands down the most scenic at the right time of the year. Go skate everywhere!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I really want to thank everyone who has either entered or stayed in my life after choosing sobriety. This new path wouldn’t be as enlightening without them.
