We had the good fortune of connecting with Houston Keen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Houston, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success is the internet.
I was born in 1994, and the World Wide Web was just in it’s infancy to many households.
I picked up on typing, graphic design, video editing, and music production early on, and really developed a skill to move swiftly and effectively in the world of content creation.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is the culmination of Bruce Springsteen and Merle Haggard records. My sound was reinvented when I moved to Austin, TX in 2017, and really started bearing roots in the red-dirt / Texas country scene.
My records are always a statement and hold thematic values, that differ from project to project.

When I first began my recording career, I was much more engaged in the heavier “rock & roll” side of things; but as I’ve grown older, I’ve gained an appreciation for space and time in music (pedal steel too).

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I think one of the best places in the world is a small town located about 30 minutes from my house.
A little island town by the name of Cedar Key; with a population of just under 600 people.
The food, the sunsets, the small beach, and night life reverberate through the small town, and provide plenty of activities for someone visiting.
That’s what I would recommend.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There’s numerous people that I would love to recognize as benefactors to my career.
Cliff Dorsey is one of the many talented artists’ from my area, and we grew up playing the bars together.
Seeing his success and team make way through the tumultuous climate of the music industry is inspiring and informative for my own career moves.
