We had the good fortune of connecting with Hennessie Martin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hennessie, why did you pursue a creative career?
As much as I like a routine, I don’t like being stuck or confined to one thing. It’s kind of crazy to explain or think about lol. Coloring inside the lines is fine, but then that gets boring! Being creative allows me to express my most inner thoughts and desires. The things that float through my mind at 3 and 4am, and then I can see them come to life with a photoshoot. When my clients let me have full creative control over their shoots, it truly makes me happy. I still get their input and make sure they’re comfortable and satisfied. But to be allowed to express myself, through my work and my clients, it truly gives me butterflies every single time.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My story is still being written, honestly. I chose the name Humble Pressure for a reason. Everything isn’t perfect, everything doesn’t go right all the time. Sometimes I’m booked up, sometimes I’m not and I go months in between without even so much as a consultation. But I still cherish those moments and believe in my brand. While I’m not busy, what can I do to make my brand better, make me better? So that when I do get my next booking, I’m giving 1000%, no matter what it is. I’m still overcoming challenges, and sometimes those challenges are me. Nothing is more frustrating than me being in my own way. But I believe that’s the beauty of having a business- the ups, downs, and in between. It’s not always peachy. No matter if I’m booked or not, I’m always proud of my business and I think that’s what’s important and keeps me humble. Because I’m steadily grateful for where I am, because I could not be here at all.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Believe it or not, I do not get out in the city like I should LOL. But I do have some favorite places that I do go to. While others may not care for them, I love them. Sedona is really one of my favorite places to dine at. They have a really good happy hour menu. Me and my friends like to do things that are relaxing and peaceful. We love things like sitting by the lake or river, picnics in the park. Sitting out by the dam at Percy Priest is absolutely beautiful with some snacks, wine, & games. Another place that I love, especially because it’s sweet stuff, is the Donut Distillery down on 5th & Broadway. They are the perfect about off sweet and savory. Some of them even come with liquor in them! When we want something inexpensive, we love Rock N Roll Sushi. They were the first place I ever tried sushi and I’ve been stuck ever since. Activities wise, while we’ve outgrown the clubbing and bar hopping, we love nostalgic things. Arcades are something we love, bowling is a group favorite. We have always wanted to do a rage room, but we haven’t been yet. Maybe we’ll put that on our 2024 To Do list!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to give the biggest shoutout to Jade! She’s not only my photographer but she’s a sister, friend, mentor, coach, sometimes my common sense when I can’t find it LOL. But she has been monumental in my growth personally and professionally with my business. Sometimes when I don’t see myself, she sees me. When I’m doubting myself and my work, she’s there to tell me otherwise. She’s beyond supportive and motivating. Humble Pressure owes her a lot, a kidney, brain cells, something! lol. Shoutout to Jade, my Gem!
