Meet Hemp Meadows | Record producer & Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Hemp Meadows and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hemp, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Balance means a state of equilibrium. It’s a condition my wiife, Denim Skye and I have achieved in our prrsonal and professional lives through trial and error, negotiation, and trying better to understand ours and each others roles. We’re in a marriage first. Our marriage, not our business, is our top priority. We’re equal partners in both. We’re totally into our relationship 100%. We’ve finally achieved a state of balance through mutually supporting each other and our own desire for personal growth. We both have independent things we do, but the key feature is that I know Denim is dedicated to a peaceful, serene setting where she can feel creative and loving. I make fulfilling her desire Job #1. I’ve learmnef how to speak her love language. I know what she wants and I give it to her. I protect her feelings and make sure I’m providing an environment where she can flourish and be happy; When she’s happy, my life is filled with joy. That’s the balance we strive for.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
People say the most unique feature and what sets us apart and what people seem to dig the most about Hemp & Denim is our sound. We have a signature sound that doesn’t sound like anyone else. Our vocal sound is unique. It’s melodic and fresh. Our harmonies are unique and airtight. We both have great pop voices and when combined with my songs, our sound is pretty irresistible. We’re both in our seventies, but we don’t look like it and we certainly don’t sound like it. We’re redefining our generation. We’re not young anymore, thank God. We’re done with any and all negativity, we dropped that game a long time ago. Our lives are dedicated to discovering and experiencing God’s love and redemption every day in every way. Our music is just praise to Him. It’s such a joy to rediscover the gift of music and be able to write, record and perform at such a high level. I started doing open mic nights 5 years ago. I’d play 3-5 nights a week at every open mic I could, just to get on a stage in front of some people and try to bring it. It took a while but I started getting consistently good, and sometimes really good. I learned all the tricks and made all the mistakes, all in front of a live audience. I learned how to perform a song, how to build a setlist, and how to find and create moments within a song. How to stand and deliver. Along the way, we developed a persona, a sound and a brand. Things really began to take off when Denim joined me. Her voice is the icing on the cake and she’s such a dynamic performer. Our combined energy compounded 100%. The result was being honored as Nashville Music Awards Independent Artist Duo of the Year. We’ve been on FOX TV, NBC, our music has been on BBC, in a movie and on TV. Our last 5 live shows have been encore presentations and now we’re even being invited to perform as a featured act as artists, hosts and MC’s numerous special events. We’re just now starting to make real money to show up and do our thing.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We moved to Nashville in 2000, so we’ve been around for all the big events and major happenings. Over those couple of decades, we’ve had 4 homes. Now we own a penthouse condo overlooking a park in Westhaven, a planned community inFranklin, TN. Franklin isn’t a suburb, it’s a little town with it’s own identity. Westhaven is like the Beverly Hills of Franklin. We have our own shops, bars and restarants We even have our own Kroger grocery and a wine store. We’d eat charcuterie and listen to jazz at the Boardroom, have great sandwiches at Scouts, fine dining at the Public House and coffee in the morning at High Brow Brew. Then we’d go shopping at all the cute stores in downtown Franklin. Of course we’d have to stop by Leipers Fork and see who was playing at Fox & Locke. We’d pack a lot of living in a little bit of time. Williamson County and Franklin attain some of the most beautiful country in America. It’s a magnet for great people and we’re so blessed to live here in the free state of Tennessee!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We are Hemp Meadows and Denim Skye. Together, we are the vocal pop duo Hemp & Denim.
I want to give a shoutout to my wife, Denim Skye. We will have been married for 39 years this year and our relationship keeps getting better and better. When you get married, you hope it’s forever. But life is full of twists, turns and temptations. In sickness and in health. In poverty and wealth. No one knows what the future holds and it can be full of unexpected surprises, both good and bad. We’ve gone through some rocky times, some self-created and they’ve mistly been my fault, not hers. I’ve had to grow up and go through my changes. But Denim stayed with me through it all. Her love has never failed. Now, I just want to make up for lost time. She’s given me the right and privilege to develop my writing and making and producing music. And now we get to do make music and perform together. Her ear, her taste and her voice make Hemp & Denim happen and I owe all our success to her.
