We had the good fortune of connecting with Hannah Rose and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hannah, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Work life balance has been tricky to grasp, but as I have grown more self aware, I am able to understand my needs better. As a result, I prioritize my health and have a routine that keeps me energized so I can work, play, and make music while preventing burn out. Some habits that always help me to put my best foot forward are: drinking lots of water, exercising regularly, and getting enough sleep. When these three elements are integrated in my life, I have more energy to give to my job and others. In order for me to show up for family and friends in the capacity I want to, work on and release records, entertain etc, I have learned that my needs have to be at the forefront. This realization cracked the code on work life balance for me. When I am balanced I am joyous, kinder, more productive, helpful and loving; and I definitely have that “Orange Feeling” ;). When out of balance, I am stressed, overwhelmed, fatigued, uninspired, and impatient. I value a positive way of living, and if prioritizing health and wellness leads to a more fulfilled life, then that is worth it to me (even if I suffer from moments FOMO when choosing to stay in vs go out with friends or family lol). All in all, I am a better version of myself and I create my best music when being mindful of work life balance.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I feel that being a female in the industry who is a singer, songwriter, and producer definitely sets me apart from others. It is very fulfilling to create and release music that is 100% me. In addition, learning to produce has allowed me more freedom financially and creatively and therefore can redirect my energy into other career-propelling areas.

My musical family encouraged me to be creative and practice self expression throughout my entire upbringing. From the age of six, I had many opportunities to perform on stage, write songs, and record them, giving me a head start in honing my craft and finding my voice. Obtaining a lot of experience as a young person played a major role in how I got where I am professionally today.

The difficulties I have faced while pursuing my dream and life’s purpose have also been the turning points and most valuable lessons. In the face of continuous rejection, fatigue, writers block, closed doors etc., I have stayed persistent and brave. Pushing beyond my comfort zone has led to powerful, life-altering breakthroughs. The more challenges I overcome, the more I prove to myself that I can endure the trying times. Learning that life can fall into place in a beautiful way after the growing pain keeps me strong in the vulnerable and doubt filled moments.

My life’s purpose is to transform my experiences, lessons learned, positive feelings, heartbreaks, etc., into music. Some people don’t have the ability to articulate their feelings, and from experience, when a song strikes a chord and feels like it was written for you, it can have a life altering impact. From feel good dance songs that bring a smile to someone’s face and a spring to their step, to a heartbreak ballad that reminds somebody they are not alone, I am open to writing it all to do my part in making this world a better place.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my best friends come to visit, here are some places I take them to show them the best time ever. I love going to Prince’s to eat authentic Nashville hot chicken. Luogo’s is a delicious Italian restaurant that is a nice place to go for a sit down dinner. Dessert at Jenis Ice Cream is always a good idea when you have a sweets craving. When looking to quench your thirst with an adult beverage, having a picnic and wine tasting at Arrington Vineyards amongst the green rolling hills is always a good idea. For a night out, the speakeasies Patterson House and Attaboy serve delicious cocktails and a perfect ambience.
Since Nashville is called Music City, catching a live show is a must. For more well known acts, the Ryman and Grand Ole Opry are amazing historical venues to experience. There are many songwriters in the city, so it is not difficult to find a songwriter round everyday of the week. My favorite songwriter round venue is The Listening Room. Lastly, it wouldn’t be a complete trip without going to the renowned entertainment district, Broadway Street. Full of talented cover bands, high energy bars, and rooftop city views, it is worth going to if you’ve never been.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would not be where I am today without the support and encouragement that I’ve received from my family and friends. When I am overwhelmed, being my own worst critic, or unsure of my next move, I have people that I love and trust surrounding me. They have a special ability that helps ground me, reinforce my purpose, and provide new perspectives. This is so helpful in my music career because they remind me to keep going when I get rejected. They also motivate me to continue progressing when it feels too challenging to share my life through song. Their unwavering support and presence is the key to my resilience, and I’m incredibly thankful to have them by my side in this exciting life.
