Meet Hannah Gordon | Photographer & Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Hannah Gordon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hannah, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
This is such a good question, because my entire professional career has been based off of taking risks. I started off working as a Visual Merchandiser in retail, which at the time was a big risk because I had no idea what I was doing… but, I learned and watched incredibly talented people and excelled at it. Next step? The interior design industry; huge risk for me because up until that point I had no training… but I knew I could do it. Fast forward to now– my business started as a design business only… but I took a huge risk turning into a design AND photography business. Did I know what I was doing? No. But I learned everything I needed to, continue to take risks, listen to my gut, and here we are now. I’ve never been scared to take a risk– it’s the ‘thinking’ about taking the risk that is the scariest part. Get out of your own head and go for it. You’ll never know until you go for it.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started photography during COVID. Work had stopped, days were long, so I needed something to fulfill me creatively. I decided to start taking photos of flowers and design projects I had been working on at the time. I just loved it. It was the one thing that no one else could tell me if it was right or wrong. Photography is art, and art is subjective– it’s personal, and tells the story you see through the lens. I became obsessed with getting better and better; so I did just that. I watched other incredible photographers, became extremely well-versed in Lightroom, and here we are– still creating art. I love every minute of it.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Nashville is so much more than Broadway. Don’t get me wrong, Broadway is a must if you’ve never been to Nashville but there are so many hidden gems! Some of my favorite places to eat & drink are Pelato, Urban Grub, Pullman Standard, Mother’s Ruin, The Patterson House. Some of my favorite things to do are Leiper’s Fork (so many cute restaurants & local shops), Nashville Flea Market, making a hat at Rustler Hat Co. (obviously), a day on the lake at Percy Priest, visiting downtown Franklin, just to name a few.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am so thankful for this one because there are so many incredible people in my life I need to give a shoutout to. To my family: they have backed me up (even when they thought some of my ideas sounded crazy), and were always there for me. I love them deeply and am so thankful for their unwavering support. To my husband TJ: we have spent many a night sitting around the dinner table talking about the future and where we see ourselves. Thank you for standing beside me and letting me be exactly who I am for 10 years. I love you. To Taylor & Breakaway Ranch: I feel so honored to be creating with you on a daily basis. Your talent and vision never ceases to amaze me– I’m forever inspired by you and I can’t wait to continue to create amazing things. And last, but absolutely not least- my incredible circle of friends: you all know who you are… I wouldn’t be having this interview if it weren’t for any of you. Thank you for being my wings and letting me fly. Truly blessed and grateful.
