We had the good fortune of connecting with Hannah Amidon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hannah, how does your business help the community?
I am in the business of spreading joy. I create comical thing to help you see the world differently, in an amusing way. To smile, love, and GIGGLE, now that is what life is about. I have traveled to Chicago, Charlotte, Chattanooga, Atlanta, etc. setting up my art and spreading smiles. I’d like to think I am helping the world one smile at a time.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I take words and sayings and draw it in a different way than what is known, a pun. Everyone asks my what inspires me, and the answer is people, I enjoy every encounter I have. I have done freelance since I graduated form Savannah College of Art and Design in 2020. I invested my freelance money into my own art. I now travel for art festivals and have an online website where I sell prints, t-shirts, greeting cards, and more! Being an artist is never easy. I have had people tell me I will never be able to make it, but the truth is I don’t care about making it. I care about making people smile. Alongside the downers out there, I have learned some mistakes as an artist as well. At one show my tent completely broke in the rain at 3 am. By some miracle none of my paintings were damaged but my tent was a goner. I had the biggest show of my life the following weekend and I found a brand new tent on facebook marketplace and had the best show of my life. Its all about reading the signs of life telling you, you’re doing what you need to do.

I am now working on a book that has been a dream for 7 years. I am hoping to get them in March. I am stoked.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
East Nashville is my vibe. The atmosphere, the bars, its great. When I first moved here in 2020 (Covid era), Lakeside lounge was my one and only. I’ve since seen it grow and I love it. I don’t go out as much anymore because now that I am doing what makes me happy that’s all I want to do (not super healthy but keeps me from feeling horrible the next day).

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother is why I am able to do what I do and why I am where I am today. She is an incredible woman and artist. She always was making art in one way or another, weather that be cake pops, photography, sewing, but ultimately ended on tiny art. She is incredibly detailed and her being my mother, I honestly don’t understand how she has vision to do what she does. I love her with everything in my heart. Thank you momma.
