We had the good fortune of connecting with Genna Wigginson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Genna, why did you pursue a creative career?
After many years of avoiding monetization and limiting beliefs, I chose to pursue an artistic career when I realized that there was a real need for my specific artistic and creative abilities. When family and friends began to request commissions on a regular basis, I knew that I needed to form a structured way of servicing them.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is primarly abstract and essentially a perpetual study of textures and elements. It can sometimes double as sculpture and tend to develop organically. I always start my paintings with an open mind to allow the freedom of creativity to fully flow. This makes me beyond proud and fulfilled at the completion of each piece.
Ive gotten to where I am today through a lot of trial and error, industry connections, and faith. Running an art business is fun for the most part but it isn’t always easy to balance. These days I continue to dream big but also set realistic goals and delegate as much as possible.

At the moment, I’m very excited about my solo art exhibit with Serendipty Labs-Memphis. The showing is entitled “ABSTRAX-Tell Me What You See” This show is special to me as it encompasses most of my collection. Additionally, I’ve incorporated a little bit of fun interaction by giving the viewer an opportunity to share their anonymous translations digitally!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If a friend was visiting Memphis, we would undoubtedly visit art galleries like Jay Ekin’s and Gallery On Main. We would visit the awarding winning Memphis Zoo, the National Civil Rights Museum and check out some amazing BBQ at Cozy Corner. We’ll spend a few nights on Beale Street to enjoy some live music and we’ll also spend an evening or two sipping cocktails on one of my favorite rooftops “BeckandCall”.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to shout out Carle Moore, Alexandra Baker, and Donna “Mocha” Aire. Each has giving me either artistic advice, support, or a lead that has taking my art business to the next level.
