We had the good fortune of connecting with Gemma Downes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gemma, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process about starting Music Of The Future was and still is that unsigned / independent bands and artists are charged a lot of money for a promotional campaigns this is when I created MusicOTFuture in 2014 to offer free promotional features to unsigned / independent artist and bands and since taking off signed bands and artists globally have approached me and they are still not charged a fee for a feature on MOTF.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Getting to where I am today wasn’t an easy ride especially in a male dominated industry and trying to be heard or listened to and it still facing these issues today with my many years in the industry I’ve built a thicker skin and advocate for women in the music industry. The lessons i’ve learned along the is trust your instincts and definitely dont give too much time away because it wont always be reciprocated. I want musicians to know that they can approach MusicOTFuture and not be afraid of losing money that they struggle to get as it is.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So I’m from Manchester in the UK and we are known for Music to many and the first stop would Salford Quays, Media City and we would grab a coffee at Moose Coffee (you can check them out here on Insta @moosecoffee ) then we would head off to the theatre depending what’s on which is called The Lowry ( you can check them out here also on Instagram @the_lowry ), we would then head to the centre of Manchester and head to my all time favourite music based Hard Rock Cafe obv course where we would drink my favourite cocktail The Electric Blue ( you can also check them out on instagram @hardrockcafemcr ) and then head out to all my favourite open mic / live music nights to check out the latest musical talent – we also have a range of theatres and arenas where so much goes on from live entertainment.

I would like to give a massive shoutout to everyone who supports Music Of The Future especially the bands, the artists and the PR companies and also the supporters globally.
