We had the good fortune of connecting with Gemma Downes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gemma, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?

The thought process of the creation behind Music Of The Future is one that puts the artists and bands first. I created MusicOTFuture as a promotional platform for bands and artist to promote their music for free this was to give those independent artists or bands who are not able to afford a PR campaign to have the chance to possibly get a feature without payment and get their music out there more. With the years going on I create a variety of new feature opportunities that have also now gone on to help industry professionals get their services heard and many more on the horizon in the future. All the features are free and easy to submit

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

The start of my career in music seems like a lifetime ago now. As anyone would say in this industry the music industry is never easy but always loveable and to be able to work in it is incredible especially helping independent artists, bands and professionals who always come back to us with submissions and what they love about Music Of The Future. Starting out helping one artist in 2012 to creating MusicOTFuture in 2014 and since then and still do have other jobs (not in the music industry and in it) on top of this and have had the opportunity to meet the most incredible people whether that be online, in person and that those have my back and ill have theirs no matter what.

Challenges I have faces is being young in the industry and female but as the story goes this wont ever change unless we keep talking about and showing that we can do whatever a man can do in any industry for that matter.

The brand and story of Music Of The Future is for artists and bands who may find it difficult to afford a PR campaign or blog post to a magazine but that doesn’t mean we dont accept submissions from PR companies or higher profile artists as one main mottos behind MusicOTFuture is we all love the music and it should be celebrated!
With this being said I strive to create more and more opportunities throughout the years I continue doing this.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Lets reverse the scenario and Im visiting friends in Nashville .. I love Nashville and call it home and miss it all the time.

I would start the mornings by going to the best breakfast spots and even though Im not a hiker I would definitely change my end and hit a different trail each morning and maybe in the evening.

Throughout the day I would take a couple days and do every tourist thing to do and then take my focus on the music scenes and bars. Hitting the most iconic venues and the independent ones as well.

To me Nashville is just the best place and checking out everywhere part would be the goal!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
In the Music industry there are the highs and lows of many different aspects which you have to deal with and find ways to process them correctly and make sure that you create your own personality but also take the advice and help. It wont all start straight away for anyone but that doesn’t mean it wont ever start. Always go out there and be yourself and when you do you’ll find people who want you to succeed just as much they want to succeed and in some cases the people you meet might already be successful and they will be the ones who give you the advice, and strive for greatness with you and when you find people in this industry they are ones you are going to want to hold close.

There are so many id love to shoutout as over the past 9 years next year 10 I have been so lucky to have met, worked, become friends with and some even more like family that my list could go on on.

I would just love to shoutout Jessica Bell because if it wasn’t of me in 2012 helping Jessica Bell with her music on socials we may never have seen Music of The Future come to life on the 14th March 2014. So Thank you Jess!
