Meet Hannah Wicklund

We had the good fortune of connecting with Hannah Wicklund and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hannah, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My first songbook stretches all the way back 4 years old, right around when I started learning piano. My mother is an artist, my father plays drums and guitar, and my older brother grew up playing music and having bands, so I had a creative and constantly loud household growing up. For me, starting a band felt like a family tradition, so at 8 years old I formed the band that would snowball into the career I have today, The Steppin Stones.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My work, specifically my new record ‘The Prize’, is a deep dive into the trials and tribulations of going through the transition from girlhood to womanhood. I did not set out to write a female empowerment record, but I think that’s what I did. I wrote it at 21 years old, and the life lessons encapsulated in the songs have truly helped me on my healing journey, and I hope they can help someone else on their own path to make room in their life for the person they want to be.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Don’t feel comfortable answering this, as Sam and I’s favorite spots are already frequented by GVF fans. Want to keep some things in our lives’ sacred!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to shoutout an incredible jeweler in Nashville named Jen Ivy. I met her years ago at the Goddess Market here in town, and she has since made myself and people close to me some quite beautiful and meaningful custom pieces that we love to wear on stage. The pieces she makes in her own style are truly heartwarming and full of crystals, silver and love, all forged in fire. She’s a fiery Aries woman like myself who deserves all of the support in the world!
