Meet Erica Miller | NEAT Method Memphis Owner and Professional Organizer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Erica Miller and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Erica, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
I recently read a book entitled Atomic Habits by author, James Clear. It’s essentially a “how-to” on implementing small changes to transform your everyday life for the better. I found this informational read to be both encouraging and inspiring to me, specifically, as a first time business owner. It offers such solid, practical advice surrounding habit formation proven to yield successful results overtime. I would advise everyone to read this book for the simple fact that it’s applicable for achieving goals in business, our personal lives, our health, even our relationships. Essentially the secret lies in adhering to 4 main rules for building good habits and/or breaking bad ones.
*Make it OBVIOUS
*Make it ATTRACTIVE
*Make it EASY
*Make it SATISFYING
Trust me! These principles are both practical and ultimately easy to implement into our daily routines. Since adopting some of these “rules” into my business practices, I have seen the fruits of my labor! My biggest takeaway and one I love sharing with others is that small habits truly make a big difference. This simple framework has made a world of difference in managing my day-to-day tasks as it relates to my business. Again, a great read for anyone looking to instill good habits for success!

Many of our clients have a hard time seeing through all the clutter that crowds their spaces and it leaves them feeling overwhelmed and unsure of where to begin the organizing process. We take time to talk through their concerns and identify the necessary pain points so that we can create and design a customizable solution for the space. NEAT Method has a very simple “method” and approach to any organizing project:
1) take everything out of the space first
2) sort & categorize
3) edit & review belongings
4) implement product
5) label for sustainability
The goal for maintaining a well-organized home, or any space for that matter, is to keep it simple. If your space is easy to maintain, provides structure, and can adapt over time then it’s a recipe for organizational success.
What sets us a part from the competition? NEAT Method is the largest in-home organizing company in the industry with over 100+ franchise owners across the US and Canada which makes us able to provide support for clients all over the country. Like I mentioned above, NEAT Method has our own line of beautiful and sustainable organizing product available on our website as well as with some larger retailers like Crate & Barrel and Bloomingdale’s. And our most exciting news yet! Our NEAT Method co-founders just wrote a book! It will hit the shelves Jan. 7, 2025. The NEAT Method Organizing Recipe Book features over 70 step-by-step projects for transforming every room in your home. It is essentially a how-to guide that gives you the steps & ingredients you need to take your space from chaos to composed. Pre-sale is available now on Amazon.
How did I get where I am today? Never in my wildest dreams would I have ever thought I’d one day be a business owner and professional organizer! I will say organizing and creating functional spaces is something I have done for family and friends for as long as I can remember. Also, I’m a very Type-A personality so being organized and having a plan is just who I am. I’m your typical Enneagram 2, so helping others is something that brings me joy and purpose. The most rewarding part of my job is creating livable and lovable spaces for our clients and helping transform their homes from chaotic to composed. Like I mentioned earlier, I spent the better part of my adult life in education. I believe my role as a classroom teacher helped prepare me for entering into the professional organizing world in part due to the immense planning, preparation, and organization that is required to successfully manage a class full of students.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Where to start?!? The 901 truly has so much to offer. Honestly, I would take my bestie all around town I suppose!
I’d love to start with a downtown stay at the Peabody Hotel, a workout at Dose Hot Pilates & Yoga, followed by dinner at the Rendezvous, and then catch a Grizzlies game down at the FedEx Forum. Of course we’d then have to experience late night bar hopping along vibrant Beale Street. That would make for a really fun and memorable downtown adventure!
However, if we were feeling a more “fine dining” vibe, I’d love to introduce her to Flight or Itta Bena, and then a show at the Orpheum.
If my bestie brought children with her, I would suggest a trip to the Memphis Zoo or The Children’s Museum of Memphis. Our zoo is one of the best in the country and there are some many new improvements being made to the exhibits on a regular basis. The CMOM hosts children of all ages so this is a fun place too to spend a couple hours.
And of course no trip is complete without some good retail therapy! East Memphis is home to some of my favorite spots like Indigo and Pickering Boxwood. Then we could hit up City Silo for lunch and maybe stop in at The Well by Pavo for some self-care services, followed by a Girls Night Out at Hen House.
And if we’re feeling adventurous and outdoorsy, I would take my bestie around Shelby Farms and suggest the Go Ape zipline adventure. It’s seriously so fun! Sunset dinner on the patio at Coastal Fish Co. overlooking the beautiful Hyde Lake at Shelby Farms to end the night.
I could go on and on, like I said above Memphis has so much to offer. I consider it a hidden gem of the Mid-South.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Before entering the world of professional organizing, I spent my days as an elementary classroom teacher. Needless to say, being organized and prepared was a necessity in order to successfully manage a classroom of 15, sometimes 20+ children. My job as an educator was to ultimately create successful learning opportunities for all my students. Throughout my years in the classroom, I always encouraged my students to “embrace the hard” when it came to learning and understanding new skills. I guess you could say I’m now taking my own advice! Shoutout to all my former students for providing me with the training and experience I needed to step into this new role as a business owner and professional organizer. The lessons I learned in the classroom and the skills I acquired from all those years of teaching along the way have been vital to my success in this new field.
