Meet Emoni Wilkins | Vocal Coach/ Singer/Songwriter/Owner of Inthekeyofdelixir

We had the good fortune of connecting with Emoni Wilkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emoni, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started Dorothy’s Kid (Vocal Coaching) and In The Key of D-Elixir because I know firsthand how much power our voices carry. Whether you’re a singer, preacher, teacher, or speaker, proper care & technique can take you a long way. After being in this industry professionally since 19, I saw how often people unknowingly neglected the very gift that makes their impact possible. My businesses are about changing that; helping people strengthen their immune systems, reduce mucus and inflammation, ease allergies, and build a real vocal regimen so they can keep showing up, inspiring, and changing lives. For me, it’s not just business… it’s legacy work.”
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is rooted in voice… not just mine, but the voices of others. I’ve been singing professionally since 19, and I’ve learned that the voice is more than sound, its legacy, healing, and power. That’s why I started Dorothy’s Kid LLC and In the Key of D-Elixir to help singers, preachers, and speakers protect their voices, strengthen their health, and sustain their purpose.
It hasn’t been easy. I’ve faced financial obstacles, industry challenges, and moments of doubt but my faith in GOD and consistency kept me moving. I’m most proud that I’ve turned my own journey into tools that help others thrive. What sets me apart is that I don’t just perform, I equip others to carry their message with strength and longevity. My story is one of resilience, service, and purpose, and I want the world to know that every voice has the power to inspire change.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I always say I stand on the shoulders of two Dorothys. The first is my mother, Dorothy Ruth Wilkins, who worked extra shifts at the bank and made countless sacrifices so that my gift could have room to grow. From paying for lessons to making sure I showed up to every opportunity, she poured into me so I could pour into my purpose. The second is Dr. Dorothy Bounds, my very first vocal coach and the owner of Dorlynn Academy of Music in Oak Park, Illinois. Her school was the spark that ignited my musical journey and gave me the foundation to dream bigger. Between the love of my mother and the guidance of my first coach, that was truly the beginning of everything I am musically today.”
