We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Myers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emily, how do you think about risk?
Taking risk is an essential part of being a musician. I will admit I was not always the best at taking risk, but learned over years to cope and manage my risk aversion to be a better performer. The key realization and shift to make taking risk easier was realizing that most people were on my team. When I stepped on stage, the audience always wanted me to do well. When I share a new song with someone new, that person always wants to like the song and tell their friends about it. If I do my part and create great music, people will be responsive to it. The world is not sitting back waiting to judge everything you do. They want to support you. Learning this changed my mindset and helped me walk into more risks with confidence.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a country/Americana artist based in Nashville. My music stands to empower others to dream big and go after the life they want. It is full of passion and raw storytelling that I hope makes someone feel seen and accepted. The new music I have been recording embodies those values. There are stories of body positivity, redemption, and reclaiming your worth on this record. I am proud of the vulnerability in the songs and I sincerely hope that they help others to trust their own healing journey.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I have loved Nashville long before I ever lived here. It is one of my cities to show off when friends come into town! If they are new to the city, I always make sure they see the best of music city. I would take them to downtown Broadway and then for a show and tour at the Ryman auditorium. I would make sure we see some of the best songwriters in town at the Listening Room and grab some Martin’s BBQ on the way. And you can’t leave out visiting the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Opry while you are here!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are many people who have supported me and my journey as an artist. But none are more true than my parents. My parents were not musicians themselves, but they saw how much I loved it. They enrolled me in piano lessons, dance classes, and local theater growing up. They bought me my first keyboard and PA system to be able to play my first gig. They learned with me to help me better hone my craft. I am grateful for their support because it is the reason I am doing what I love today.
