Meet Drew G | Barber and Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Drew G and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Drew, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I’ve always had an urge to express myself whether it was through music, fashion or hair. I played in metal bands most of my life. One thing that goes hand in hand with metal is cool hair. So the opportunity to go to barber school was a no brainer for me.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a barber by trade and currently work at Bentonville Barber Company in Bentonville, Arkansas. My approach to barbering has always been a traditional mindset with a bit of modern essence added in. Honor the old school traditional ways but always keep things fresh. I go by “TheBourbonBarber_” on instagram because I was a bourbon snob that also cut hair. It set me apart from other barbershops and kind of turned into a brand itself. I’m entering my 10th year of barbering and it’s been an amazing journey. I’m always connecting with clients and friends as they sit in my chair and get a cut. They come for a cut but stay for the barbershop banter. One thing I’ve learned in the shop is that the client in your chair had 1,000 other options but is sitting in your chair. Treat them with respect and kindness. A majority of my clientele have become friends outside of the shop.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Breakfast we are going to hit Susan’s Diner in Springdale or go to Delta Biscuit food truck ran by my good friend Hayne Begley. Lunch we are hitting Wrights BBQ, The Rail for Wings and pork shanks or Walk-Ons in Rogers. Dinner we are going to hit the Blackberry Brassiere in Rogers and check out what Chef Bernie has in store for us. Another dinner spot I enjoy is Pasta Fina in Cave Springs. Some of the best Italian in the area.
There are so many options for drinks in the area. One of my favorite spots to hit is the Sky bar located in the Momentary museum. Gives a great look over the town and the atmosphere is normally chill. There is also lady finger, the vault and scotch and soda.
I always enjoy the farmers markets in Bentonville and Fayetteville. The hiking and mountain biking in Bentonville is top notch stuff.
Depending on what part of the year we are in, catching an Arkansas Razorbacks sport event live is always a fun time. Win or lose we still booze.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My barber career wouldn’t be where it is at without the support and encouragement of my family and friends. Also; Steve Ashley and his family are the backbone to RockSquatch designs.
