Meet Dr. Kym Moyer | Family Physician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Kym Moyer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Kym, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted to create a business that simplified our healthcare system and removed the “hassle” that should not be normalized. I thought of old times, when your physician spent time with you, knew you personally and even made house calls. In order to do this, I created a relationship that only involved the patient and physician by removing corporate medicine and health insurance billing from the primary care setting. So, there is now a direct relationship between the physician and patient both professionally and financially. The model is called Direct Primary Care. Instead of billing insurance, patients pay a monthly membership fee which provides the patient with unlimited office visits, direct phone calls or texts to the physician, as well as heavily discounted medications, labs and procedures. But best of all, is the relationship that builds between the patient and physician that allows us at Magnolia Family Medicine to truly know our patients. We enjoy learning about their families, jobs and passions. By learning what impacts our patients’ health allows us to provide better care that is more personalized.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Hi, I’m Dr Moyer with Magnolia Family Medicine. What makes my practice unique is that we have no waiting rooms, we have no co-pays, and every patient has a doctor’s cell phone number for ease of texting or calling when needed. I’m able to do this because I have separated my practice from third party Industries including corporate medicine and health insurance billing. This boils the relationship down to the patient and the doctor only. At our clinic, our mission is to provide healthcare that is more affordable, more accessible and hassle-free for our patients. Once learning about this model, the community has been very excited to have this type of practice in town. However, the biggest challenge to overcome was communicating my message to the community, and providing education about Direct Primary Care.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If friends were coming into the city and we were to take a weekend trip, I would take them on a boating trip on Old Hickory Lake, then we would do dinner at Rosie here in Hendersonville for dinner. Their food is fantastic!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A rising tide raises all ships. I contribute a lot of my success to the Physicians who have started Direct Primary Care clinics before me. Nationwide, doctors are helping other doctors open their own doors again and take back medicine from the hands of health insurance companies. Some have even opened their clinic doors to teach me how they were running their business. I give shoutouts to Dr. Waters in Apex, North Carolina, Dr. Hitchcock in Chattanooga, Dr. Umbehr in Wichita, Kansas and many others who have given advice along the way.
