We had the good fortune of connecting with Douglas Nugent and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Douglas, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
The most important lesson my business has taught me is that you have to be adaptable and prepared to handle unexpected situations. Whether it’s ebb and flow in business, material availability, and client needs, it’s important to have a strategy in place for when these things happen to minimize any disruption.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I think what sets me apart from others is my level of dedication to customer satisfaction. I view the work I do as a craft, and I want it to be perfect. I build relationships with all of my clients and don’t see them as just another job. I care about what they want and who they are, which helps me better understand their vision. I walk away from each project proud of the work we did. As far as how I got to where I am today, it required a lot of hard work, putting myself out there, and getting out of my comfort zone. This was the most difficult aspect for me, but I realized that if I wanted to do the work I love there were going to be challenges and obstacles, especially being a small business owner trying to make a name for yourself. The most important thing I did was to not give up.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Honestly, I’m a huge homebody so we would probably spend a lot of time hanging out at my house bbqing and watching sports. I would definitely take him to a Titans or Predators game with drinks on Broadway afterwards to give him the Nashville Experience.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout out my wife for always supporting me and being my sounding board. And my son for putting a smile on my face every morning before I leave for work. My family is my driving force not only to succeed, but to create beautiful spaces other families can enjoy.
