We had the good fortune of connecting with Develyn “Devy” Butler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Develyn “Devy”, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
I now have a two-year-old who takes up the majority of my time. Whereas before I worked a full-time job and did my baking business on the side pretty much whenever I wanted. Now I have to add being a mom on top of that which means sometimes my business does take a backseat. At first I wasn’t sure if I would be able to manage it but I have been pretty well. I’ve cut back on some of the events I do but the ones I do I make sure I put my all into. I take more custom orders, which has been extremely fulfilling, and allows me to branch off creatively, which I love.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Every since I was young I’ve always loved being in the kitchen. Both of my parents graduated from culinary school so cooking has always been a major focus of my life. I started this company from a hobby. I’ve always loved baking, and honestly just wanted to share that with people and was very surprised, but thankful when it started to pick up the way it did. Every order is a way to improve to expand my horizon and I’m so very thankful to all of my customers for allowing me to be a part of their special moments. Just this past year I was able to be a part of three separate weddings. If you would’ve asked me when I started this business, if I would ever do a wedding, I probably would’ve laughed because I never saw myself doing one.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Thankfully, my best friend is a foodie like I am, so we would definitely be hitting a lot of the food spots in the city. I follow an amazing local blogger, and she always has amazing recommendations. Her name is Armani and the blog is “Taste of the 901”, anytime I’m looking for a place to eat and I want something new. Her page is a first place I go.
