We had the good fortune of connecting with Destiny Starks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Destiny, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I knew the Gifts God has given me, and given many opportunities! I have dreams and goals. Plus there’s a few people who inspire. I see black women on the big screens, do something and say “ I can do that!” And I know I can. My dreams and goals pushes me to keep going in my business.
 

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My niche in my artistry for makeup is enhancing beauty for women and some men. When it comes to make up my clients are always satisfied. I call it Skin Makeup. It looks like you have little to no makeup on. Natural, sleek finish. I provide natural hair services to men and women. I help them embrace their natural hair and take the mental weight off when the service is provided. I’ve learned to not give up on your gifts, some days are busy, some days are slow but always keep going.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Most of my friends are musically inclined. For breakfast and brunch we’d go to First Watch, the best breakfast spot in my eyes. A few places for lunch and dinner I enjoy is Joe Louis Restaurant and Cornbread for some good soul food. Then we got Jamaican Pot or Island Spice for some good Jamaican food. Depending on the time of the year and season, the DIA, African American Museum and Hitsville downtown are some good spots. For some good live music we’d go to WallStreet and or Bakers Lounge for a good time.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My want to dedicate this to my baby boy Jamil. He has given me Life & Purpose. He helps me to keep going and not to give up. I can’t give up because he’s counting on me to be the best me and mommy to him.
