Meet Desaepa Vansauwa | Founder & Co-owner of Vansauwa’s Tacos and Vegan Eats

We had the good fortune of connecting with Desaepa Vansauwa and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Desaepa, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I was in the middle of learning self-sufficiency, and I said to myself, “If you do this right, you can control your outcome.”
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Vansauwa’s Tacos and Vegan Eats is the home of Caribbean-inspired tacos, nachos, burrito bowls and more. We are the 2024 grand champion of the Kentucky Food Truck Championship and the 2024 Best International Food Truck in Middle Tennessee. I’m excited about the world learning about our brand and giving people better options. This road that I’m on to build this business is personal — I want to do this for my family — but while I’m on this journey, I want to give you the best food you’ve ever had.
One lesson I’ve learned along the way is you don’t need everything you want in the moment. Build with what you have and expand it.
I want the world to know I did this without compromise. I did this with my family, and everyone who is not with me told me they didn’t want to be with me.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m going to take them where Vansauwa’s Tacos and Vegan Eats is set up because we set up at some of the hottest spots in the city. It could be eating Carnival Tacos at CMA Fest; it might be a Jerk Burrito Bowl at the Nashville Black Market. If we’re not open, we might stop at Slim and Husky’s Pizza or Bag Lady’s on Buchanan Street, or grab chicken Philly egg rolls from Itz a Philly Thing. For night life, we might slide to Minerva or Jar10.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Pops’ was consistent in keeping his word in everything he did, and my Uncle J – Joseph Majors has always been a boss and his spirit has never been bound to anything. I always wanted that freedom. My brother Patdrick is adaptive to any environment and can be received like it was his natural place.
