Meet Dawn Menge | Dr.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dawn Menge and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dawn, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I was not considering my author journey as becoming a has it has become. When I first published, I simply wanted to publish my children’s book as a way of creating a positive creative outlet. I now have fifteen published works and have won over ninety International literary awards and twenty-five Film Festival awards. The series ranges from PreK-6th grade and the repetitious format of the PreK-3rd grade books helps the emergent reader and all readers who are ESL learners.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I would love my readers to know that every one of the Queen Vernita’s educational adventures is a real-life story with real people. The adventures encourage friendships, exploring, learning various cultures, flora and fauna of New Orleans, Alaska, Hawaii, Baja Mexico, New England, the Solar System, Wyoming and the Desert. The Dragon’s Breath series teaches about kindness, standing up for yourself, creating boundaries and Precious the Baby Dragon builds unconventional family’s, friendships and exploration.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in a small mountain community and if my friends visited in the winter and they did not like snow we would stay inside and drink warm hot chocolate, covered with whip cream and a cherry on top. If they enjoyed the snow or had little children we would build giant snowmen, walk to town for lunch and make snow angels. We could go into the mountains and sled, go snowboarding or skiing. Having a warm fire in the fireplace is always a must. If they came in the Spring or Summer we could go for hikes, long walks on the nature trails or go camping.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would always give my mom a magnificent shout out for always supporting my author journey and attending my events with me. My family and friends for being part of my children’s series. My illustrator for her wonderful talent in turning my life adventures into gorgeous illustrations for the children of the world to experience.
