We had the good fortune of connecting with Danielle Cortez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Danielle, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Back when MySpace was a huge deal, I, like many others enjoyed building my custom profile and making it exactly to my liking. When I decided to quit my job, I referred back to these days and I thought I could make a living in the digital space. With my amateur design skills and my ability to talk to anyone, I decided to try the digital marketing route. I regrettably spent WAY too much money on an affiliate course scam and when I felt discouraged, I met up with an old elementary school friend who just so happened to own a marketing agency and took me under his wing. After 2 years working beside him and learning from him, he brought me on as a founder of our company, Digital Empire.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My role has changed from creating ads for clients and has evolved to being a Project Manager/Creative Director. I wear many hats and I am ok with that. When I am “on the clock,” I am helping direct photo and video shoots, making sure the models are taken care of, relaying the artistic direction to the client, etc. What sets me a part is, I make things happen or I always find a solution when something is not working. Something I’ve learned along the way, is to not be upset when someone doesn’t like my idea. Before, I would be so attached to a storyline, but I have grown to know that it’s ok for a client to not agree and I need to go back to the drawing board with a good attitude and work on the next idea. At the end of the day, it’s their business and I have to respect that

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a MAJOR foodie and coffee lover. My go to’s are always Dose, Hearts, Hawkers, North Italia (I know it’s not local, but it’s a fan favorite). If you’re feeling fancy, Yolan is one of the best culinary experiences I have ever been a part of. For activities, dare I say, BROADWAY, but we all know it is THE place for a first timer. I am a huge country girl so, I would love to take them to an Opry or Ryman show. Something historical and fun. If it’s warm outside, definitely kayaking is on the agenda!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Definitely my business partner Mike, for giving me a chance and growing our business to what it is today!
