We had the good fortune of connecting with DaChri and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DaChri, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
My ultimate goal is to connect and reach as many people as I can through my art. I want to tell stories that others can relate to and have open dialogue for the rest of my life. I want my “framily” (friends, fans, family) to feel safe and nurtured when we’re together. I want to be full time touring and releasing projects that matter and cause growth and change. I’m excited to dive deeper into my artistry and continue to create snapshots of my life and the lives of others through these 3-4 minute songs. I don’t want to be someone who played it safe and didn’t take risks. I am not built for that. I create “pop music” but that doesn’t mean the music shouldn’t tell real stories. Once history is said and done I hope to look back and have accomplished all that I sought out to do through my music career.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
This has been such a long journey. So many times I was almost broken, almost quit, almost ran out of battery power in the middle of the road but for whatever reason I didn’t. I’d like to think that’s because I know my greater purpose . I also have great people around me. I am not doing this to become famous or live some “rockstar life”. I am doing this because I feel called to spread positive messages to the world; inspirational, honest, real and vulnerable. I have learned so much along the way. For instance, just because one door closes doesn’t mean your story is over or because something worked for someone else means it’s going to work for you. So many things I have learned from the heartache and heartbreak but I wouldn’t take back any of those lessons. They made me who I am and have shaped how I live and the lens in which I see the world.

Hopefully when it’s all said and done people will know that I gave all of myself. Even if I never reach the heights I set for myself I hope everyone knows I tried. I hope my efforts motivate others to strive for their dreams too. I hope my songs reach people and become part of their every day lives. I hope they become anthems to live by and give listeners inspiration and something to dream about. I hope they break barriers and heal wounds that need healing.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Hmm, what are my favorite spots in the city? I would say the 12 South Area. Bartaco is out there, Jeni’s ice cream, the mural where everyone takes pics with the wings, even the classic Frothy Monkey is out there. Some of my favorite coffee spots are Dose and Crema. I have yet to check out Biscuit Love but I heard it is amazing! The line is always out the door so it must be,

But if you’re like me and want to go to shows then I’d say go visit the Ryman, The Basement or Ascend. You can literally go to a show every night here in Nashville if you have diverse taste and love music. The East Room and Cobra are the coolest spots to find your new favorite bands/artists.

There’s also a lot of great churches here like Trove Heights where I attend which is a beautiful and diverse depiction of what Nashville is and what the world should look like. Ugh, you just got to check it out.

Now, if you’re going to visit you have to check out downtown Broadway, it’s a right of passage and the very touristy thing to do. You have to see what makes Nashville tick and what makes it pop. Then also there’s cool stuff to see and experience in the surrounding cities like Brentwood or Murfreesboro or Franklin. There’s so much growth here and that’s what makes this place so amazing.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Man, so many people have helped contribute to where I am today. Everyone from my music teachers and coaches growing up; Ms. Scott, Mr. Barry, Mr. MacAllister, Ms. Bennett and Desmond to all the folks who’ve ever done music with me. My old bandmates and collaborators. My producers: Brian Wight, Josh Muckala, Joshua “Illa Noize” Rodriguez, Jason Threm, Gavin Shea and Cole Tague and all my friends (way too many to list) who constantly support me when I’m feeling down and out. Friends that remind me of who I am when I forget, Organizations like Underground Music Collective (now called ECM) have done so much for me since I’ve been here. Podcasts like the Quinn Spinn, Xplr Nashville’s Nashville Daily Podcast, etc have given me a voice and let me speak candidly which has been so freeing for me as an artist.
