We had the good fortune of connecting with Crystle Jones-bond and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Crystle, how do you define success?
I define success by the inspiration I bring to others and the lasting impact I have on their lives. It’s not just about personal achievements, but about uplifting those around me—whether through my work, my knowledge, or my ability to create opportunities for others. True success comes from finding joy in what I do, knowing that my passion and purpose align with helping people grow, feel empowered, and embrace their best selves.

Financial success is also important, but not just for personal gain—it’s about having the means to bless others, to support communities, and to create meaningful change. In a world where jobs are decreasing, I see success as the ability to build opportunities, open doors for others, and provide stability for those who need it. Whether through mentorship, business growth, or creating employment, I believe success is measured by the positive ripple effect I can create in the lives of those around me.

What should our readers know about your business?
No, it wasn’t easy at all! Running a business—especially in the beauty industry—is like a rollercoaster. Some days, you feel like you’re on top of the world, and other days, you’re just holding on for dear life. But no matter what, I’ve learned to just keep moving in the direction of my dreams, even when the road gets tough.

I built Assuage Hair & Body out of pure passion for healthy hair, self-care, and creating a space where people feel valued and educated about their hair. What sets my salon apart is that we’re not just about styling—we focus on overall wellness. Private, relaxing suites, partnerships with black-owned businesses, and products that actually nurture hair instead of just covering up damage.

And I’m not just behind the chair—I’m also the chemist behind Classic Natural Hair Salon Systems, creating products designed specifically for natural hair. I even wrote a book, I Want to Go Natural… Now What?, which is on Amazon, because I know firsthand how overwhelming the natural hair journey can be.

I’ve worked hard to break barriers in this industry. I’m beyond proud to be a two-time award-winning celebrity natural hairstylist, named one of the Top 25 Natural Hairstylists in the World by Behind the Chair. My salon, Assuage Hair & Body, is a three-time award-winning salon for hair care, which is a huge accomplishment in itself. But one of the things that still blows my mind? I became one of the first—if not the first—African American hairstylists inducted into the Country Music Association (CMA). That was a huge moment because, let’s be real, representation in that space is rare.

But what really drives me is inspiring the next generation of beauty professionals. Growing up, I didn’t have an example of a stylist doing all the things I’m doing now—being a chemist, an educator, an author, a business owner, and a mentor. I want to show others that they don’t have to stay in one lane. They can create their own path, chase their dreams, and make an impact in ways they never imagined.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned? Success isn’t about perfection—it’s about perseverance. There were so many times I felt like giving up, but I kept showing up. I kept learning. I kept evolving. And most importantly, I kept believing in my vision.

At the end of the day, Assuage Hair & Body isn’t just a salon—it’s a movement. It’s about healthy hair, self-care, education, and empowerment. I want the world to know that we’re here to make a real impact, one client, one stylist, and one breakthrough at a time.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend came to town, we’d have the best time ever—good vibes, great food, and fun experiences without feeling rushed! I’m ok with whatever she wants to do but if she doesn’t know.

Day 1 – Wine & Scenery at Arrington Vineyards

We’d kick things off with a relaxing afternoon at Arrington Vineyards. It’s such a beautiful spot to sip wine, snack on some charcuterie, and soak in the scenery. The live music, fresh air, and laid-back vibe make it the perfect place to catch up and ease into the trip.

Day 2 – Self-Care

Of course, a little pampering is a must! We’d start the day at Assuage Hair & Body, where we’d indulge in a relaxing scalp treatment, sip on some herbal tea, and just take a moment to reset. Nothing beats a private, calming atmosphere where you can truly unwind.

Day 3 – Get Creative with Candle Making

I love hands-on fun experience, The Candle Bar and make our own custom candles. It’s such a vibe—you get to pick your own scents, pour the wax, and leave with a candle.

Day 4 – Beauty & Glam at The Lip Bar

A beauty day is a must! We’d stop by The Lip Bar to play with different shades, find the perfect bold lip color, and maybe do a little shopping for beauty must-haves. Nothing like a little glam session to feel good!

Day 5 – Paint & Sip Night

What’s better than wine and painting? Laugh, and just have a fun, laid-back evening. Even if our paintings don’t turn out great, the memories will!

Day 6 – Mix & Mingle at The Liquor Lab

We’d shake things up—literally—at The Liquor Lab, where we’d learn how to mix our own cocktails. It’s such a cool experience because you get hands-on with different flavors, and by the end of the night, we’d be toasting to our amazing week together!

Day 7 – Brunch & Goodbyes

We’d wrap up the trip with an epic brunch at The Butter Milk Ranch or Milk & Honey—because brunch is a whole experience! From mimosas to the best comfort food, we’d soak up every last moment before heading to the airport.

This trip would be the perfect mix of relaxation, fun, and unforgettable moments—exactly how I love to spend time with the people I care about!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout goes first to my amazing mom, whose love, strength, and sacrifices have shaped the very foundation of who I am. I am forever grateful, because it wasn’t always easy.

To my incredible husband, Reginald Bond—my rock, my biggest supporter, my safe place. Through every challenge, every late night, every moment of doubt, he’s been right there, lifting me up, reminding me of my purpose, and loving me through it all. I couldn’t ask for a better partner on this journey.

To my mentors and friends—your words have been like a lifeline when I needed them most. The pep talks, the tough love, the encouragement when I wanted to give up… you’ve helped me push forward when the road felt impossible. I’m so blessed to have people who see my potential even when I don’t see it myself.

And to my family—my foundation, my heart. You show up for me in ways big and small, and your love fuels my passion. Knowing that I have you all in my corner gives me the strength to keep going, to dream bigger, and to create something that honors all the love and support you’ve given me. I couldn’t do this without you.
