We had the good fortune of connecting with Crystal Booth and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Crystal, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
As a Licensed Esthetician, who had worked in traditional spa settings, I learned the two things that keep people from committing to regular visits are time and money. Either the spa schedules aren’t conducive to theirs or the services require a lot of time. The services are out of their budget or simply cost too much to do on a regular basis. I thought to myself “what if I eliminated the time-wasters and money-wasters to create and obstacle-free experience?”. That’s how Fizz Facial Bar was born. I always say I aim to “break the rules” of a traditional spa by creating an environment that is welcoming, educational, affordable, and efficient.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Like many Estheticians, I began as a Makeup Artist. While pursuing my Bachelor of Fine Arts at University of Kentucky, I focused heavily on Makeup for Theatre & Film. That transitioned into makeup artistry for special events, all the while sparking my interest in what happens below the makeup- skin functions, skin aging, skin damage, etc. From there I joined a Cosmetic Dermatology team, as a Manager not a service provider as I wasn’t yet licensed. Although I couldn’t perform services, I found joy in observing procedures, hosting events, and assisting clients in curating skin care routines for home use. In truth, I knew I wanted to be an Esthetician since around the age of twenty, but I didn’t get the opportunity to pursue that dream until I was thirty-two. In the Spring of 2015, I enrolled in an Esthetic program and set my sights on becoming the best Esthetician out there. I dove head first into the experience, focusing on honing my craft, building relationships, becoming Student Council President, hosting career fairs, anything I could do to get ahead. After graduation, I went immediately into the workforce as an Esthetician. It wasn’t until Summer of 2017 that my husband I relocated to his home state of Arkansas. Having left all of my clients, all of my connections, I was starting fresh. My husband suggested I open my own business. Truthfully, I never pictured myself as an entrepreneur or as a business owner. But when he uttered those words it unlocked something in me that made me realize I had the chance to do something different; to leave a mark on the Esthetic industry. I knew then, if I opened a business, I wanted it be something that would allow for both clients and Estheticians to have access to something they hadn’t seen before. Fizz Facial Bar was born from the idea that a spa experience could be more social, more educational, more accessible, more efficient, and more fun! Seven years later, we now have ten locations in five states and are continuing to grow.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’ve only lived in Nashville for three years, and honestly most of the time I’m working. There is one thing I insist everyone who visits must see – The Ryman.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shout out to my husband, Tim, for encouraging me to start my own business, for supporting me in every way a partner should, and for holding me accountable in the ways that matter.
