We had the good fortune of connecting with Craig Charles and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Craig, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
For me, it’s always been. You have a great attitude you work hard, build solid relationships along the way. I do believe great things come from that. And in business having a great name with a friendly environment gives people comfort and make them want to come back.

What should our readers know about your business?
Owner of Crowncutz Academy. Barber and beauty school in Johnson city Tennessee and Bristol Virginia. Helping people change their lives through this career so they can take care of themselves and their families………for me I think about my 7th grade teacher Mr. Peterson who gave me a quote “ excuse are the tools of incompetence which build bridges to no where and a person who practices them will amount to nothingness” that standard I have set for myself from that day and has help my feet the fire. When I am trying to accomplish things and set goals for my self …..I am really proud of being part of the Confess project. The first national barbershop mental health movement. Helping barbers bridge the gap in their communities through mental health training for themselves and clients. Just understanding how mental health play a vital role in our lives. I believe being a good human being goes a long way.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to Abington to the 26 mile creeper trail bike ride downhill then probably go for a hike to check out some of the great hiking trails in East Tennessee. Then probably take them to Tennessee hills to see how they make whiskey. To grab a bite I would go to union41 in Bristol. If that weekend have funny cars drag racing, I would check it out

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
