We had the good fortune of connecting with Corey King Jr. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Corey, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think risk-taking has built my personal and professional confidence. Most of the time, the things we are afraid to take on are the things that are most beneficial to us. The bigger the risk, the bigger the reward. I took a risk of relocated out of state, alone and not knowing anyone to create a “life” for me. I met new people, experienced new things and gained knowledge that helped me land my current career. Something I never would’ve accomplished had I not put my fear aside and took that risk.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started my career in customer service while obtaining my undergraduate degree. From healthcare to insurance to aviation, for a span of 11 years, I enriched my experience in customer service. When I relocated back to Nashville, I applied for a role at Metro Nashville Airport Authority. While interviewing, the CEO thought that my skills, achievements and in-person impression, was better fit for a higher role and offered it to me on the spot. It’s a testament to never selling yourself short, and I remind myself of that everyday. Be you , do the right thing and your hard work will pay off in time!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So because I love a good margarita and Mexican cuisine, I would have to take them to Taco Mama’s for a nice drink and good food. We would then visit a nice rooftop downtown (ONE hotel or LA Jackson) to get the night started. Brunch is a must here in Nashville and we would visit the likes of Milk & Honey, GATHRE, Roasted Salemtown or Butterfly. I’d even want to check out some new and upcoming spots in the city I haven’t yet seen myself.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my family. I’ve been fortunate enough to have family that always shines light and positivity on the decisions I make and the risk I take. I also have a close knit group of friends who I have grown up with and we consistently seek to ensure we all win under holding one another accountable.
