We had the good fortune of connecting with Constance Sholar Cherry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Constance, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I was thinking about starting my business, I wanted to have the creativity and provide high quality childcare. I was committed to self improvement and program improvement. I started in an after school program working at my grandmother’s center. Then I moved into working in family childcare in my own home. I expanded to a commercial facility that opened in 2020. I am currently completing a renovation project on a second commercial facility. It has been a journey!

What should our readers know about your business?
I describe my brand is mommy owned and operated with an upscale feel in an urban environment. Creative Home Academy and Preschool caters to the modern busy families. I am most proud of in my business are committing to a progressive and ahead of the childcare industry trends in the market. I have had challenging and pivot in resiliency. I have learned to always save for a rainy day and your company is only as good as your team that surrounds you.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So if my best friend was traveling to my area, I would take them some of the best restaurants in the city. For example, we are are going to Char and Texas de Brazil for brunch. We would visit downtown The Pocket and Havana Mix for live music. We would visit Tom Lee Park and Bass Pro-shop at the Pyramid. Just to add a bit of culture to the visit, we are heading to the Civil Rights Museum and complete a tour for The Handy House,

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout out to my grandmother for leading by example with passion and purpose. I want to shout out my husband for supporting me and believing in me from day 1. I would love to shout out The Childcare Sucess Academy for coaching me on my journey to sucess.
