We had the good fortune of connecting with Claire Sully and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Claire, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risks to me, tie in with bravery, and I think to persue a career in music, it takes a lot of bravery and risk taking. Artists such as myself, we’re taking big steps out of our comfort zones every day to achieve success.
Everyone has their own definition of taking risks when it comes to having a career in music. For me, it’s putting my name out there and sharing music with the world that I hope people are able to connect with at the end of the day.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a 24 year old professional singer and songwriter based in Boston MA. When it comes to my story in music, I’d say It came with a lot of obstacles, that sometimes to this day, I’m still having to face, however, it came with a lot of risks that I had to conquer to reach the level of success that I’ve achieved today. I like to say I grew up with a family that supported me in what I wanted to become creativly and artistically, but truthfully, they weren’t the family that I feel believed in me enough to say “We really think you have what it takes to make music a career, so we’ll move to a city where it’s seen as a profession”
With this, for many years, I’ve had to put the foot work in, and I think anyone who meets me, will easily see how strong my work ethic is. I’ve worked with A&Rs at Warner Music, written with former American Idol contestants, country singer Kelsea Ballerini;s former tech, worked for Livenation & Iheartradio to name a few, and all this came with years of hard work.

I’ve learned so much about the music industry. I’ve been singing professionally since I was 16, Every project I’ve put out, every collaboration I’ve been a part of, has taught me something new about myself and who I’m working with. People always ask me about my creative process. Some days are harder than others. All songwriters experience writers block when inspiration doesn’t strike right away, but I think, that’s what’s so great about having a small music team. I work with producers daily and sometimes having that extra person to help inspiration strike is great!

When I release a record, at the end of the day, I’m most proud of the effort and work that went into it. I think people are quick to think, “Oh songwriters write a song, they get it out, they promote, and it’s done”. In reality, if you think about it, all creatives, in my case, singer and songwriters we’re entrepreneurs! It takes a small village to get a professional at a record label to let alone listen to your product. I’m fortunate to have the right connections and have the freedom to work with who’m I desire. At the end of the day, it comes down to, me being in a room, on the phone with my producer putting together melodies and lyrics and creating the vision that’s been in my head for a long time and bringing it to life.

I’m very proud of this last record “Heart & Mind” produced by Canadian producers Paul Star and CJ Griz, we started this project back in late July early August, and to see the success it’s reached today, is absolutely incredible! we’ve seen our most popular song “Pretty Girl” on pop playlists on Spotify, it’s been aired on radio, we’ve been able to land a couple meetings with label executives, so I only hope it gets better from here on out!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
What’s nice about Boston, is we love live music! We’ve got so many live music venues that I’ve either worked at or enjoy attending to watch an artist perform! There’s TD Garden, where big names perform, however, sports games are played there as well! Then there’s MGM Music Hall at Fenway! That’s a very popular venue where artists book to sing, very similar to the House of Blues, there’s the Road Runner for artists to perform! Straying away from music a bit, my other favorite spots to visit in the city are, the Seaport District, where you’re right on the water and you get a beautiful view of yachts and boats, cruises people can take around the harbor! Lastly, probably my all time favorite place to visit, where I feel like I’m home, is the North End. I was raised in Milan Italy and moved to the States when I was a preteen, so when I’m feeling homesick , the North End makes me feel like I’m back connecting with my roots. There are people who speak Italian, plenty of Cafe’s, Italian restaurants, places to get gelato, cannolis! Truly a place where I’d consider spending a lot of time, if you’re visiting!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to shoutout a couple people who’ve been a big part of my success.

first and foremost, my producer from Canada, Paul Nepash (Paul Star). Paul, thank you for being my partner in the studio, bringing my visions in music to life, pushing me to strive and be the best artist one could be. You’ve always taught me to push through the difficult days, because at the end, we’re exactly where we’re meant to be. I can’t wait to work on new music with you and see where this journey takes us!

Secondly, my two dear friends, Paula Roberts, and Robin Butler….You both are such influential women in my life, and to have your endless amount of love and continuous support in all my creative projects, mean the absolute world to me. I am truly blessed to share such a meaningful and strong bond with you both.

Then I have my family to thank – I love you guys, thank you for giving me the creative space to create music that not only touches me, but others around the world. I’m greatful for your continued amount of support in my musical journey!

Lastly, the fans… you all, are the reason I am here today and one step closer to achieving my goals and dreams! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for streaming and listening to my transforming and powerful EP “Heart & Mind” Get ready because it only gets better from here! Life’s a climb, and I can finally say… the view is GREAT!
