Meet Christina Logan | Event Planner & Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina Logan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christina, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
This is such a hot button topic I think especially for women in the work force. How in the world do we accomplish the perfect balance? At first, you have to dedicate all your time to get clients, prove yourself to your clients, get more clients, show everyone what you can do, and it’s hustle hustle hustle. Be available every day at all hours. When I was pregnant with my first child, a client asked me if I thought I was going to be able to do my job when I had my baby. I said “of course”, but was so taken aback, that not only did I not take maternity (because I worked for myself and it doesn’t exist), but I also felt the need to push myself hard and worked from my hospital bed after birth to prove to everyone that I was stronger than they thought. And when I got pregnant again several years later, I hid it as long as I could from clients until I was about 7 months along and it was not possible. I was so worried about being judged, and again I worked the entire time when I had a newborn, to prove to everyone that I could. I was exhausted.
And now, everyone stresses work life balance and how we need time for ourselves. After the pandemic it became “okay” to have kids because them invading your work space was unavoidable! And it was the first time I didn’t cringe if I heard my own children in the background. It was the first time people let me feel okay about trying to have a balance of life and work.
Now that I’m much older than I was when I started my business 12 years ago, I also realized that I no longer care if people judge me. Those people, are not my people. I want to be able to enjoy work, work hard for my clients, and say “I’m sorry I’m unavailable at that time because I have a family to tend to”. I still get nervous admitting the truth, but I want my clients to know the real me, and that the real me is dedicated to everyone I commit to. There is no real work/life balance, it’s more about accepting your priorities, and hopefully learning what those are sooner than later!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started my own business because I knew what I wanted to do and I was tired of relying on other people to get it done. I am, without a doubt, a doer. When I set my mind to something, I want to figure out how to get it done. I don’t want to fit into a mold and I couldn’t find the job that I wanted out there, so I decided to create it myself. I am so fortunate and that I had emotional support from my family, because it has absolutely not been easy! And then we moved cross-country and I had to start over with a whole new city. But I truly believe that it was meant to be this way, because I have learned so much from the slow and steady build of my business that has made me into the loyal and hardworking planner that I am. I even thank my previous jobs out of college that gave me unexpected experiences that helped build my knowledge that I use for this job. Yep, even that time I got fired as a waitress at 22. A million years later, I have a better understanding of people and myself and I feel confident about the choices I make for my business and for my clients, and that is because of the foundation that I built over my journey.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My best friend is in Australia, and nothing we do together is a bad time! We would wake up early and go for a hike at Radnor Lake. Then we’d go get some healthy and delicious lunch bowls at some place like Cava for lunch. Then we’d go to the pool to hang out in the afternoon. By 4pm we’d start having nice cocktails to get the evening going while getting ready to go out. Then we’d head downtown to go to dinner at Hampton Social and a concert outside at Ascend Ampitheatre, and follow that by going to some bars for dancing and a few drinks before heading home and falling perfectly asleep! Outdoors, music, food and we’re set!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have a couple of incredibly close people that listen to my work and life woes, and then a fantastic group of individuals within the Nashville Wedding Planner’s Group that all support one another and build each other up. I’m so grateful to the Nashville vendor community as a whole for always being welcome since I moved here 10 years ago and really promoting unity and building one another up, not competing against one another.
