We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris Blair and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chris, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have always been an entrepreneur at heart. I started my first lawn mowing business when I was very young. But the thought behind The Listening Room was really just after I started playing shows around town and felt like something was missing in the sound, the food and the atmosphere – so I wanted to create something that was different and special.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have said for a while that… Music is the universal love language of the world. Music comes to us through song. And every song has a songwriter. That’s what our mission is at The Listening Room – to bring the stories behind the songs to our audience. My hope is that we help our community of songwriters and fans by giving them a place to perform or to come listen. And we are blessed to have people visit our venue from all over the world every year, so I hope they go home taking a piece of The Listening Room with them as a highlight from their trip.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friends were visiting Nashville for a week, I’d make sure they experienced the best the city has to offer. We’d definitely have a nice dinner at Luogo Italian restaurant in the Gulch, and I’d take them to Cinco de Mayo in East Nashville one night for some authentic Mexican food with some great drinks on the patio. For a unique and fun experience, we’d visit Liquor Lab to try our hand at cocktail making – that place is such a blast. And I’m a boat guy so we would probably have a day out on the boat on Old Hickory Lake. There are so many great things to do in Nashville that I feel like our list is always growing. It’s one of the things I love about our city. There would never be a dull moment!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There have been many people who have influenced me over the years. I learned a strong work ethic from my grandpa and dad, who both owned businesses and taught me the value of starting from the bottom. The Entrepreneur Organization (EO) has also been instrumental in my development, providing invaluable insights on business, growth, and leadership. I’ve been fortunate to find many mentors through EO. And, of course, my family deserves a huge amount of credit. My wife Brittney, in particular, has been a constant source of love and encouragement through the ups and downs. I also have to recognize my incredible staff at The Listening Room. They are truly the heart of our operation and the reason for our success.
