We had the good fortune of connecting with Chase Lee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chase, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
For me, risk is less about recklessness and more about trusting that growth lives outside of comfort. Every major shift in my life—whether it was leaving the traditional classroom (and then returning), stepping into the wellness world, or starting my own sound healing business—required taking a leap of faith. I think of risk as a form of alignment: when something keeps calling you, it’s risky not to answer. Taking those leaps has led me to deeper purpose, stronger connections, and a more expansive version of myself and my work.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My work is essentially a mix of music, wellness, and community care. Through my sound healing practice, SOUNDSAGE, I offer intentional sound experiences (sound baths, sound therapy, etc.) that help people slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect with themselves. What sets me apart is how I blend my training as a musician, my background in education, and my heart for healing to create spaces that are both deeply restorative and culturally grounded.

In addition to my healing work, I also teach elementary music—another space where I see the power of sound to uplift, connect, and bring joy. Teaching has taught me patience, presence, and how to meet people exactly where they are. Whether I’m in front of a classroom of energetic kids or holding space for adults in a sound bath, I’m always looking for ways to use sound as a bridge to peace and self-expression.

Much of my drive comes from a desire to support the people of Memphis. Our city holds so much beauty, but also carries the weight of stress, grief, and systemic challenges. I want to offer something that helps lighten that load, even if only for a moment. I’m especially proud of bringing this work into spaces that often don’t have access—like children navigating loss, educators on the edge of burnout, and families of color seeking calm in a chaotic world.

The path hasn’t always been easy. Starting a business, shifting careers, and introducing people to a healing modality that’s still unfamiliar to many—all of that has come with its share of challenges. But I’ve learned to stay rooted in purpose. To trust that if this work brings healing to me, it can do the same for others.

What I want people to know is that healing doesn’t have to be loud or complicated. Sometimes it looks like stillness. Sometimes it sounds like a single tone. SOUNDSAGE Sound Healing Studio is more than a business—it’s my offering to help Memphis breathe a little easier.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friends came to visit Memphis, our time together would be a mix of spots I go to all the time, places I haven’t been to in a while, and a few new ones we’d discover together. That’s part of the fun though—revisiting old favorites and exploring the city with fresh eyes.

We’re all into history and art (we all worked at the same art museum at one point during undergrad), so we’d definitely carve out time for the National Civil Rights Museum. It’s always powerful, no matter how many times you go. We’d also check out some galleries—maybe something happening at Crosstown Concourse or the Brooks Museum. I love that art in Memphis doesn’t just live in museums; it’s on buildings, in communities, and always telling a story.

For food and drinks, we’d most likely hit up The Blue Monkey. It’s one of those places I go to regularly because it just never misses. El Mezcal is another must; it’s been a favorite for a long time, especially when you’re in the mood for a good margarita and a chill vibe. I’d probably throw in a spot I haven’t been to yet—maybe something I’ve been meaning to try or one of those hole-in-the-wall places people always talk about. We’re always down for trying something new!

The whole trip would be a mix of catching up, laughing way too loud, and really feeling the rhythm of the city. That’s what I love about Memphis; there’s always something new to experience, even in places you’ve been a hundred times. It’s always authentic and real.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Nothing I’ve built, personally or professionally, has happened in isolation. My journey has been supported, shaped, and uplifted by so many people along the way.

First, I have to shout out my family. Their love, grounding presence, and belief in me, especially during the moments I doubted myself, have meant everything.

I’m also incredibly grateful for my friends and fellow musicians in Memphis and beyond. I’ve had the joy of performing with, learning from, and building friendships with some of the most talented (and hilarious) people I know. Their encouragement, creativity, and sense of humor have kept me inspired and grounded through it all. I’m always grateful for their support and the laughter they bring along the way.

The educators and mentors who poured into me early on—both in music and in life—deserve so much credit. They taught me what it means to lead with purpose, to teach with heart, and to stay curious and committed to my craft. Their guidance helped lay the foundation for everything I do today.

And finally, I want to give a heartfelt shoutout to everyone who has supported SOUNDSAGE Sound Healing Studio in any way. Whether you’ve booked a sound bath, liked a post on social media, shopped with me at a vendor event, or simply stopped by my table to say hello—I’m deeply grateful. Every time someone chooses rest, healing, or stillness with me, it reaffirms my “why.” You are just as much a part of this journey as I am.
