Meet Channing K | Lead singer of Lake & Lyndale

We had the good fortune of connecting with Channing K and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Channing, how do you think about risk?
Creating a life in the music business will always come with risks and I think you just have to continuously push through the thresholds and remind yourself why you’re doing it in the first place. I think too often people focus more on the reward so the frustration kicks in when that reward doesn’t come immediately. For our band, Lake & Lyndale we took the risk of uprooting our lives to move to Nashville. Since then it has been a lot of trusting the process- releasing music/videos that are authentic to us. I think putting yourself out there in any capacity is a risk so for us we appreciate the highs and roll through the lows.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Our band is Lake & Lyndale – the four of us met in MN and started playing together before deciding to make the move to Nashville together. I think something that sets us apart is we all bring different influences into our music, which at times can be tough ha but I think has also helped us develop a unique sound. I think our live show sets us apart as well because the chemistry onstage is undeniable because we have played together for so long and there’s a trust there. We just recently released a new single “Flea Market” along with a music video, which we are very excited about! We spend a lot of time on music video concepts and have been fortunate to find Zach Manning and Mark Manning of Lone Valley, along with Ben Boutwell who are the best in the business and with their help, music videos have become a big part of our identity.
I wouldn’t say our journey has always been easy but I feel like that is probably true for most. Besides the classic van break downs and financial insecurities that come and go, I think the biggest hurdle has been finding people to work with who you can trust. We definitely have our horror stories on that front but ultimately we learned from it and now surround ourselves with people who believe in us and show up.
One of the biggest things I’ve learned is how mentally tough you have to be, and that is just for life in general. When the mental health goes, things just spiral downward so taking a step back when you need to is crucial for anyone in any business. I think we live in a world where we try to out-busy each other but hey, if you’re uninspired, take the time to go get inspired again.
That being said, I’m going to pivot from that point and say you gotta put the work in. A dream is just that until you act on it. Social media is an amazing tool but it’s also brought a very “quick fix” mentality so I think finding that line or balance is important.
For Lake & Lyndale, we are going to continue to share our kind of country music. We have been writing and working with our producer, Alex Kiel, and have a lot of new music we’ll be sharing throughout the next year. We’d love to have you on this journey with us 🤍
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I don’t even know where to start ha! I would go to Cafe Roze in East Nashville for coffee/brunch. I would go check out East Nashville Antiques & Vintage, Backslide Vintage, the Robinson Flea Market, and if they’re here at the right time would highly recommend the Nashville Flea Market that happens once a month. The Ryman Auditorium is my all-time favorite place to go see a show so I would take them there. For more live music: if you’re making the trip to Broadway, I would hit Roberts and Ole Red for sure (obviously many options there)- Some of my other live music spots would be Nashville Palace, Underdog, 5 spot, and Dee’s. Bite a Bit is my go to sushi spot and across from there is Village Pub which is a fun place to hangout and grab food/drinks. I would make sure we hit Printers Alley downtown and of course, my favorite bar in East- Noble’s.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would shoutout to the boys in the band – Jon Krentz, Tyler Kloewer, Eric Clifford and our producer, Alex Kiel
Also- shoutout to Lone Valley for doing such amazing work on our music videos as well as videos and content for many other artists around Nashville 🙂
