We had the good fortune of connecting with Celia Newman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Celia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted to create a space for women to continue to play the game they love at a high level. She Got Game League was founded so women could still get exposure if they were still pursuing a professional career as well as a way to empower women to continue to chase their dreams.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have a passion and love for athletics and just women sports in general. I am a former Athletic Trainer and have just always been around athletes whether in an academic or sports setting. I am most proud of how far She Got Game League has come in just 5 years. We have expanded to Nashville, Houston, Little Rock, Denver and Dallas and I’m super excited to see our growth in the years to come. It has not always been easy and it took a lot of hard work and dedication and some sleepless nights to bring my vision to life and not give up on it. I’ve learned so much on this journey and our league will only continue to grow and be even better each year. I want the world to know that my dream is for She Got Game League in the future to be a G-League for the WNBA!!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well I’m in Memphis and I would take my best friend of course to a Memphis Grizzlies Game and we would eat at Rendezvous and have drinks at The Curfew downtown. We would also hang out at The Wknd to have a great night out.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this story to my players. She Got Game League would be nothing without them continuing to participate and believe in the vision to help us expand to multiple cities. I would also like to shoutout our new She Got Game Nashville commissioner Ashley Awkward who is ready to take the league to new heights this upcoming season.
