We had the good fortune of connecting with Cassie Welk and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cassie, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Ethics. With social media and companies using wild marketing, skincare can be incredibly overwhelming. Especially when it is easier to “influence” people nowadays. I could easily sell the most expensive product on the shelf and upgrade each client to the most expensive treatment, but I don’t. I spend time learning my clients- their goals, their skin, their budget, any underlying health contraindications, and even their comfort zone. I take all of this into consideration when building out a plan. And I am never hesitant to say no to a client if I know a certain treatment is not safe for them, even if they disagree. Because of this, my clients. trust me, they know they are safe and will see real results.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a licensed esthetician. Nothing makes me happier than when my clients notice the positive changes in their skin. I tear up a little when they send me photos or excitedly tell me how their family and friends have been complementing their skin. I have struggled with my own skin for years, so I get it. I understand the frustration and insecurities that come with not being comfortable in your own skin. This makes it a more natural process when working with my clients- I got to be the guinea pig for my own profession not even knowing it at the time. But is it easy? No. Everyone’s skin and body are very different. Clients do not know how to heal their skin, so its up to me to figure it out. Being a good estie requires a lot of knowledge, so remaining open and taking note of everything I see and do has helped immensely. I’ve learned it is important to say no. Not everything is a good fit for everyone. But I have to know how to say no and when it is appropriate. I just want everyone to know that healthy skin is possible.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, I’d definitely take her to Germantown Day Spa 😉 While there are so many great places in the city, I am definitely a homebody so our time would be split between going out and about and staying in! We’d hit up the farmers market downtown on Saturday morning and then grab lunch at Slider Inn down the street. Maybe head to Germantown to do some shopping in Saddle Creek. Everyone needs to see the Pyramid, so we’d for sure go to Bass Pro, take the elevator to the top and lookout over the city, even though I’m petrified of heights. Going to Grizz games is one of my favorite things to do! Over the course of the week, we’d grab dinner at Hog and Hominy, Folks Folly, Uncle Goyos, Red Koi, and maybe grill at home. We’ll take multiple trips to Ben and Jerrys, and grab smoothies from City Silo. And if it’s summertime, we’ll have a couple of pool days!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Germantown Day Spa- They took a chance on a new estie, fresh out of school. I didn’t know anything, but I was excited. I think they saw that in me and gave me a place to learn and grow. I would not be the esthetician I am today if I wasn’t a part of the GDS team.
