We had the good fortune of connecting with Casey Cox and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Casey, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I think I wanted the freedom to implement my ideas without having to convince whoever I was working for that it was worth trying. I also wanted to be able to take off whenever I wanted to do family activities without having to check in with anyone or tracking PTO. I wanted to be very present in my wife and children’s lives.

What should our readers know about your business?
After more than 11 years in public accounting, advisory, and leadership roles with small and medium sized businesses, I was ready for a change. This became even more evident after my wife and I found out she was pregnant with our second child. I left a lucrative position in industry to start Incado because I wanted to be available for my family, while building a platform to help business owners champion and retool their businesses in an efficient and non-traditional way. Incado is based in those principles and fueled by my passions and experiences. I have been fortunate to work with several great people and mentors that have exposed me to a variety of situations and different industries. Over time I have developed many strong relationships with professionals involved in banking, transactions, accounting, and investing, all of whom I endorse to assist and service my clients and myself. During a two-year period of my career, I served as CFO and COO in tandem, which allowed me to create a unique way of bringing those roles and processes together. When I left that role, I was able to hand those responsibilities off without any interruptions to the business. These experiences are part of what shaped my approach to providing more efficient and cost-effective ways to support business owners and their goals. Simply put, my core responsibilities at Incado are rolling up my sleeves to solve problems and bringing peace of mind to all business owners that I encounter.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a home body for the most part but I would tell them to visit Percy Warner for a nice hike. Check out the schedule for the Ryman and try and catch a show. Spend one night visiting Broadway but would have them stay outside of downtown, most likely in the West End area. I have lived in Nashville since I was 4 and it’s changed so much so the biggest advice would be to walk around and let the Nashville spirit lead them into places to eat and things to see.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
It would have to be Alex Hunter, who has been mentoring me since 2017. When I was wrestling with the decision to go and start my own business in a full time capacity it was Alex who walked side by side with me to steer me in the right direction. I remember coming to him with several business ideas with the full intent to accomplish them all at the same time. He advised me to focus solely on Incado Partners and sell out of all the other businesses and not start anything new. That investing in myself through Incado would compound ten fold over any other investments I had and he was 100% right. I am grateful I listened to him and that he stuck with through all my crazy ideas.

My other person is Nathan Rowe. I ask Nathan to create a position in his firm just so I could get some experience. He could only pay me enough money to cover my gas but that was enough for me to do it. That relationship not only taught me about accounting, but Nathan helped land my first professional job during the Great Recession when no one was hiring anyone. I will always be indebted to his kindness.
