We had the good fortune of connecting with Caroline Sharpnack and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Caroline, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
I rely on a handful of habits to help me succeed in both my personal and professional life. Goal setting (and regular goal check-ins) has been one of the best habits I’ve formed for my business. At the beginning of every year, I create a list of goals that I want to achieve that year – ranging from small and easily achievable to big, wild dreams. I keep this list in a place that’s easy to access and I look at it on a weekly basis as a way to check in on my progress and also to keep everything top of mind. It can be easy to get lost in the daily grind and forget about the goals we set for ourselves, so you can always put a reminder in your calendar to check in with your goal list every week, or even just once a month, if you find that to be helpful.

Another habit I rely on during the week is giving myself a small amount of quiet/creative time before I begin working each day. For me, this usually looks like reading a book with a cup of coffee, but it could also look like meditation, a quick stretch/yoga class, drawing, journaling, etc. I always try to squeeze in this time for myself before I head off to a shoot or sit down at my desk for a long editing session. I find that it helps to clear my mind so that I don’t start the day feeling depleted (which can often happen when the first thing you do in the morning is check your email/social media, respond to texts and so on). Carving out time for a little relaxation and creativity in the morning is the best way to set yourself up for a successful day.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m an Interior Photographer; I create images for interior designers, builders and architects with an eye for detail, an editorial approach and a strong focus on natural light – I love to let the light in a space guide me in how I photograph it.

I’m grateful that my clients trust me to capture their work, and I don’t take that responsibility lightly. My goal is always to create beautiful photos that embody my client’s vision of their projects that they can also be extremely proud of.

Growing my business has been a lesson in patience. I’ve always tried to stay focused on my own work – making sure I’m putting everything I have into each photo shoot and creating the best client experience that I can. Above all, I want my clients to be happy with my work and excited to share it with the rest of the world.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I was born and raised in Nashville, so I have a lot of favorite spots in the city. One of my favorite places is Cheekwood Botanical Gardens – as the name suggests, it’s a sprawling estate with botanical gardens, an art museum and mansion built in the 1930s. Stop by the best bakery in town, Dozen, on your way to Cheekwood, then head over to Gaslamp for some great antiquing. One of my favorite neighborhoods in the city is Germantown – a super charming neighborhood that’s great for walking around and seeing the historic homes, eating at fantastic restaurants such as City House and Rolf & Daughters or doing a little shopping at the various local businesses. You can’t go to Nashville without seeing some live music, and my favorite venue is the Ryman Auditorium. I started going to shows here when I was a teenager and I try to catch at least one or two each year. End your stay at Noelle, a gorgeous downtown Nashville hotel built in the 1930s with Art Deco roots.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband and my family have always supported my creativity and cheered me along in the many stages of forming and growing my business. I’m lucky to have many people encouraging me throughout my journey.
