We had the good fortune of connecting with Cam Wheaton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cam, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
Music is just too big of a part in my life for me to ever give it up. Sometimes it gets very discouraging, but I look at artists such as Chris Stapleton who had to cut their teeth for decades before they made a name for themselves. I know I’ll never give up music no matter the part it plays in my life

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Something that sets me apart from a lot of other new artists is my musical influences. I’m heavily influenced by many genres and bands. From Foo Fighters and Matchbox 20 to Jerry Reed and Willie Nelson. I think I’ve taken a small part of different bands I’ve loved over the years to help create my sound.

My band and I recently got to do a 6 show run in TN/CO and are gearing up to go out again in a few weeks. It was our first taste of being on the road and we loved every second of it. I’m just looking forward to bigger and better experiences we have along the way.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Locally, I would take them out to Bubbaques in Trenton, FL. Great atmosphere, great food, and live music. Another one of my favorite spots a little farther away is Saint Augustine. Always something going on over there every day of the week.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe lots of my success to my dad, Joey Wheaton. Ever since I could remember he has always encouraged me that if I put my mind to it I can make a career playing music. He also plays with a few bands and has a home recording studio where I do a lot of sessions.
I also want to shoutout my amazing band. I wouldn’t be even close where I am today without them.
