We had the good fortune of connecting with Brooke Frankovich and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brooke, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
We have a simple list of values and rules we live by in our home and our business: 1. Just do the next right thing.
2. Don’t chase the money.
3. Be authentic even when it’s not pretty.
4. The good stuff doesn’t come easy.
5. Never sacrifice quality for quantity.
6. Always be grateful for where you’re at. The good, the bad, and the ugly all serve a purpose.
7. Take, “that’s not my job” out of your vocabulary.
8. Give it to God. Over and over and every day.
9. Love everyone. But surround yourself with people that motivate you to be better.
10. Make time for family, rest, your spouse, (and your critters)
11. Winners worry about winning. Losers worry about
12. And for goodness sakes, life’s too short for bad bbq!!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Nothing about small business is easy! But it’s incredibly rewarding. We never sacrifice quality for quantity and always provide top-quality Texas style BBQ. But we say daily that people are the best part of what we do. The Smokin F Feedlot is a place where all kinds of community gather and are created. Take the trek through corn fields out to the barn with friends or make new ones…we just love to see people slow down and enjoy the moments. We work hard to create a welcoming, family-friendly environment where all ages can gather. We have live music every time we’re open. Some people dance, some dine and dash, some bring a cooler and relax all night. We get to be part of birthdays and post-game meals and anniversaries and even precious moments like funerals and celebrations of life. It’s incredibly honoring and humbling and we’re grateful every day for the opportunity to do so.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The Lost Sea, Iron Works, Cades Cove, Walnut Kitchen. Sweetwater Valley Farms.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Year ago, we moved into a house in Montgomery, Texas. Our new neighbors, a retired couple named Carl and Debbie, were in need of a couch and we had an extra, so we traded them a faux leather sofa for an old run down smoker. It quickly became Jay’s passion. Carl and Debbie became great friends and entered our very first BBQ cook off with us that year, and we’ve been cooking ever since. Mrs. Debbie has passed away since then, but we think of them often and are so grateful they gave us our start 🙂
