We had the good fortune of connecting with Breon Ross and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Breon, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
For as long as I can remember, I have always had a passion for fashion. Creating a business and brand that I love, never feels like work because it’s something that I enjoy so deeply. I developed my business, Beyoutiful Luxe Boutique out of passion, love, and a need to bring more inclusivity to the fashion community and to expand my efforts in my hometown of Memphis, TN. The name Beyoutiful was selected because I wanted all women to know that “YOU” are beautiful no matter your size, gender, skin color, etc. Be “YOU” and that is more than enough. When I began my boutique in 2018, there were not a lot of boutiques in the Memphis area owned by black women nor many that included us in their demographics when buying inventory. After using my knowledge of retail and fashion, I began to research my target market and their need within my city. My boutique caters to the fashion-forward woman between the ages of 24-44. We offer trendy clothing and one-of-a-kind accessories that you are sure to not find anywhere else.

What should our readers know about your business?
Beyoutiful Luxe Boutique caters to the fashion-forward woman who wants a curated selection of unique clothing. We carry an array of trendy clothing and one-of-a-kind accessories that you are sure to not find anywhere else. We work exclusively with manufacturers to create original pieces that our customers will love.

Starting my own boutique was an interesting journey that has not always been easy. From sourcing and finding quality vendors, I had my work cut out for me. But it has been a process that has been rewarding and fulfilling. Because I am a one-woman-show, I have learned a lot about the importance of time management. I manage the social media posts, create and film my own content, as well as fulfill the orders. The boutique has grown to where it is today through trial and error, hard work, persistence, and constantly learning and evolving with the times. I am most proud and excited about the growth that Beyoutiful Luxe Boutique is experiencing. We are continuing to grow our clientele, as well as offerings of clothing and accessories that we carry. If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Being born in Memphis, I love all that the Bluff City has to offer. We would begin our Memphis excursion by grabbing BBQ ribs and BBQ spaghetti at the best barbecue spot in Memphis, known as The Bar-B-Q Shop. Then we would stop by Overton Square to grab a sweet treat from Sweet Noshings and shop the locally owned shops. Later that night, we would enjoy a game at The Grind House to see The Memphis Grizzlies “grit and grind” their way to another victory. While at the game, we would indulge in a local Memphis favorite, Rendezvous BBQ Nachos. YUMMY! After cheering on The Memphis Grizzlies to victory, we would go to The Peabody Hotel and enjoy drinks in the grand lobby, while people watching and enjoying the world famous ducks.

The next day, we would start the day by grabbing brunch on the patio at Coastal Fish and enjoy the beautiful lake view. Afterwards, we would enjoy shopping at the Shops of Saddle Creek. Next, we are off to check out Bass Pro Shops to experience The Lookout, to get an amazing view of our beautiful city. That night, we would enjoy a baseball game at Autozone Stadium to check out the Redbirds, ending the game with a beautiful fireworks presentation.

On Sunday, we would Brunch at Owen Brennans, checking out the amazing omelettes cooked to perfection by Chef Shortie. While visiting, we would have to grab chicken wings, because just like Memphis is known for our BBQ, we are also known for having the best chicken wings. We would get chicken wings from a local favorite, Chings, and try their Orange Mound Punch. Later that night, we would enjoy fine dining at Porch and Parlor before enjoying a show at The Orpheum Theatre.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to recognize my husband, Arnold Ross, for helping make this entrepreneurial dream of mine a reality. I would like to thank my family and friends for your unwavering support. Thank you for the referrals, recommendations, assistance at pop-up shops, and encouragement along the way.

I would also liketo provide a special shout out to my mom, who has always loved, encouraged, and supported me in all endeavors. She taught me to always chase after my dreams. Thank you mom. I love you and hope that I am making you proud.
