Meet Brandon Owens | DJ, Audio Engineer, & Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon Owens and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brandon, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I wouldn’t say that I “pursued” an artistic/creative career. Moreso, it was the path that was revealed to me. My interest in music peaked in middle school. I was interested in listening to all kinds of music, all the time and it was a way that I could express myself. I picked up the guitar and I have been making music ever since. From playing bass guitar, to DJing, to producing, to recording and engineering, to PA setup and operating. I just continue to do what I love and continue to pray and believe in myself.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Ever since I was a kid, when I listened to music, I would always sing and hum to the instruments and never the lyrics. I have always had an interest in music as a whole. At age 12, I got my first instrument: an electric guitar. I chose guitar because I loved playing Guitar Hero and wanted to learn how to play the songs in the game. I taught myself how to play with the help of some YouTube videos.
After a few years of guitar, I felt like I could expand on my music creativity. My interest then turned to DJing. I started making mixes at age 15, but got more invested in the craft at age 18. Along with DJing, I got into producing and audio engineering. I create many types of genres of music, from orchestral pieces to hip hop to metal to R&B. Since I’ve started producing and engineering I have been awarded 2nd place in the Southeastern Composer’s League Annual Student Composer Contest, teamed up with Out East Records LLC. as their producer and engineer, assisting local churches with audio needs, and I continue to DJ around the city.
The journey to get where I am has not been easy, nor is it close to being over. The biggest struggle was starting from scratch and learning something new each time. Trying something you’ve never done before is always hard, but you will be surprised by the things someone can accomplish after dedication, practice, and believing in yourself. Doing these things will ultimately help you become better in your craft.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of the good spots to stop by at while in Nashville is Up Down. It’s like a sports bar but with a bunch of arcade games around to play. It’s good for a group outing.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shout out to Out East Records LLC. and Tanni. We just released a track “Not Sure” ft. FrostbiteBeats & Tanni. Out on all platforms right now.
