Meet Borneo Sedeu Nishevikj | First Assistant Director and Director for Film and Television

We had the good fortune of connecting with Borneo Sedeu Nishevikj and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Borneo, what do you attribute your success to?
One of the key aspects of working as a first assistant director for film and television is the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, often at different stages of production. For instance, while I might be deep into the shooting days of one production, another project could be in “week minus 4,” which refers to the pre-production period four weeks before principal photography begins. During this phase, I’m involved in planning, scheduling, and prepping with the crew to ensure everything is ready for the shoot. Simultaneously, I could also be overseeing another project that requires reshoots, which involves coordinating with the original crew and cast to capture additional footage needed for the final cut.
Juggling these various stages between projects requires meticulous time management and the ability to switch focus quickly. Working as a first assistant director demands an exceptional level of organization—something I am deeply passionate about. From creating detailed shooting schedules to coordinating shooting locations and base camps, my role is to ensure that every aspect of the production is planned and executed as best as possible, all while prioritizing artistic integrity. This involves anticipating potential issues, developing contingency plans, and maintaining clear and constant communication with all departments.
Good organization is the backbone of a successful production. It ensures that the project stays on track, within budget, and meets its deadlines. I take great pride in my organizational skills, which I have honed over the years through experience and continuous learning. These skills enable me to manage complex tasks, prioritize effectively, and keep the production moving smoothly, even under pressure. This dedication to organization, coupled with a relentless pursuit of excellence and a commitment to continuous growth and innovation, has been instrumental in the success of my career as a filmmaker.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I primarily work as a first assistant director in the film industry, which is both exhilarating and demanding. It’s a role that requires a unique blend of creativity, leadership, and meticulous organization. Every day presents new challenges and opportunities, whether it’s managing complex schedules, coordinating large crews/productions, or ensuring that the vision is realized on screen. This dynamic environment keeps me engaged and sharp.
My journey to becoming a successful first assistant director and filmmaker was shaped by a diverse range of experiences. I started in theater, which provided a strong foundation in live performance and stage management. I have also spent many years working in video and media. My formal education in film, both as an undergraduate and in my graduate studies, equipped me with a comprehensive understanding of the industry and the art of cinema.
One of the lessons I’ve learned along the way is the value of calculated risk-taking. While my position in the film industry demands meticulous planning and adherence to strict schedules, it also requires a willingness to embrace uncertainty and seize opportunities as they arise. I am constantly tasked with making split-second decisions, whether it’s adjusting to unforeseen changes in the production schedule or troubleshooting logistical challenges on set. In such high-pressure situations, the ability to assess risks quickly and effectively is indispensable. Whether it’s advocating for alternative shooting practices or suggesting unusual approaches to problem-solving, I recognize that calculated risks are often necessary to elevate the quality and impact of making a vision come to life.
Ultimately, my work is driven by a profound passion for film and a dedication to excellence. My story is one of continuous learning, resilience, and a relentless pursuit of artistic and professional growth. Through my work, I strive to make a meaningful impact on the art form and inspire others to follow their passion for storytelling.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Atlanta has many stunning locations to visit. Piedmont Park is a popular spot, featuring beautiful backdrops often seen in films, including parts of “Avengers: Infinity War.” Another amazing place to visit is the Georgia Aquarium. Additionally, taking a tour of Trilith Studios, one of the largest studios in the US, is an incredible experience for any film enthusiast. I would also recommend catching a movie at the Plaza Theatre, which is Atlanta’s oldest operating cinema.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A big thank you to my family and friends for their unwavering support! Your encouragement continues to inspire and drive my passion for filmmaking.
