Meet Bobby Choi | Rapper, Songwriter, Producer (Kip Bizzy)

We had the good fortune of connecting with Bobby Choi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bobby, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
I’m actually curious about this myself. For me I guess music had always been something I did because I liked it. I liked writing songs and challenging myself when it comes to song writing. I never thought of it as something I would become extremely successful doing. I think because of that though, I don’t think I started improving significantly until I decided to try to professionally pursue it when I moved to Korea to try to get signed with an entertainment company. I feel like if I decided a bit earlier to fully pursue music, I would have gotten a lot farther than I did. I wasted a lot of time going to college for something I didn’t really have a passion in pursuing but more because it was a stable career path. Criminal Justice. I have a degree but am not using it at all and instead owe student loans for something I’m not using at all.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The main difference would be, I write for a reason. Not because it is what I believe that it is what people want. I do music for myself. I’d rather hear that my music helped just one person get through a tough time and maybe even saved their life. I want my words to mean something because its whats coming from my head. I would rather make someone feel they are not alone rather than seeing all these stars and how they live and simply entertain yourself because its a lifestyle you are not familiar with.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would first suggest a variety of delicious places to go to eat. Preferably Manhattan beach. As for the night scene, I would probably call some friends and have them meet us in Koreatown. Since I dont drink or go out much I would hope I could show [them] a good time with my friends that do.
Then I would probably take them to Malibu and ride the [PCH] to Neptunes net. Then who knows where the night would go from there. I guess we would just have to find out from there.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I learned a lot from my time training in Korea, but I’d like to shout out to “maddjayy” my former producer. All though we would bump heads, his consistency is undeniable. I believe that If he spent some time around industry professionals more he would progress so quickly. Also gettting used to working with other artist will be helpful to get him familiar with the work flow of working with professional artists. I believe with the proper guidance he could become huge. Being self taught he just needs to surround himself [around] more people who can help him improve his skills. I believe he has the potential to become something like no other. He just needs the right guidance from someone he would want to learn from.
