Meet Bethany Ellis | Curly Hair Specialist
We had the good fortune of connecting with Bethany Ellis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bethany, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued an artistic/creative career because I knew from a very young age I needed to be able to express myself in my work. I could never have a career just for the pay. I had to have a career I enjoyed & could show my personality in. Even as a teen I would not work a job that wouldn’t let me have certain hairstyles, tattoos or have all my piercings in. I need to be able to express myself in all aspects of life.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I work with natural hair to enhance my clients natural curl pattern. I think what sets me apart from others is the fact I specialize in working with curly hair in its natural state which is hard to come by, especially in the local area. I don’t want to say the road to where I am was easy or hard but I think what makes it worth it to me is the fact that this is my dream. My work doesn’t feel like work to me because it’s a privilege that my clients trust me with their waves, curls & coils.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’re definitely hitting Broadway in Nashville to bar hop & people watch. Grab a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants on the strip. Hit up Opry Mills & Green Hills mall. Gotta go to Top Golf one of the days. Get some ice cream from Legendary & a night out at Vibes, Willie B’s or Minerva.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to shoutout my mom for being supportive of me going to cosmetology school. I know a lot of times parents are not always so supportive of the trade school route but she held me down the whole time.
