We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashlyn Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashlyn, can you tell us about an impactful book you’ve read and why you liked it or what impact it had on you?
As 2023 came to an end, I completed reading “Born With It: Unleashing Your Greatness” by J. B. Smiley, Jr. This book inspired me to ask myself important questions regarding my chosen path, to look at where I’m at, and where I’m going. However, it also reminded me to appreciate where I’ve been, and how each moment, good & bad, has been a stepping stone towards living my dreams. I really enjoyed how open & honest the author was about his experiences & his path, and how he shared impactful stories of others that helped him to be focused. With 2024 soon approaching as I continued to read, this book pushed me to further release things that weren’t serving my highest good, and to further embrace all of the things & people that were.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When it comes to my work as a model, I am most proud of & excited about my ability to help bring someone’s vision to life. It gives me joy knowing that by striking a pose or an expression in a curated look, I am being a piece that helps successfully fulfill a creative pursuit. I have reached where I am today through working & collaborating with local fashion designers, photographers, brands, and businesses. I have also reached where I am today by showing up, being open, passionate, and available. Success is never achieved alone, and it’s important to me to show up in a positive spirit, so that I have a good time, and everyone else involved has a good time as well. Every journey has challenging moments; however, remembering your purpose and why you began the journey makes it all worth it. A very relevant lesson that I’ve learned along the way is to never make something all about you, because it’s really about the big picture, and it’s a privilege to be a part of that. I want the world to know that I’m here to enjoy life, have a positive impact, and brightly shine while doing it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The city of Memphis has a variety of places to experience things you love & enjoy. When shopping for fashion, I visit the Wolfchase Galleria mall, and my absolute favorite boutique with the best contemporary & quality pieces, Lori James. It’s also important to shop for skin & self-care needs, and that is when I visit the Bubble Bistro, a black-owned business featuring all-natural products. When eating out for breakfast or brunch, I always have a great time visiting East End Grill, or Sunrise Memphis. For lunch or dinner, I highly recommend J. Alexander’s, Takashi Bistro, and Rock N Roll Sushi. Good eats are a must, and so are good treats! My top spot for dessert that never disappoints is Quintessential Sweets. For hanging out during the day, it’s always refreshing to visit the Crosstown Concourse, Overton Park, or Shelby Farms Park. While hanging out in the evening, I enjoy the Powerhouse Cinema Grill, and the Cru Lounge!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
In my story, the most special shoutout goes to my mother, Andrea Johnson. She is an entrepreneur, an empress, a unicorn, and an utter force to be reckoned with. My existence & my world would be absolutely nothing without her, and I am very grateful & thankful to God for blessing me with her as my mom. Not only is she there for me, but she’s also there for my siblings, her community, and her entire village. Thank you mom for all that you have done, all that you are doing, and all that you are going to do. Love, Ashlyn.
